2015: A Big Bang Odyssey

A while ago I saw Blue Harvest, the Family Guy parody of Star Wars.

How would you like to see a Big Bang Theory take on 2001: A Space Odyssey?

Sheldon Cooper as Dave Bowman

Leonard Hofstadter and Howard Wolowitz as Heywood Floyd and Frank Poole

Though not actually in 2001, work in Raj Koothrapali as Dr. Chandra.

and Kripky as the voice of HAL.

Just Imagine Dave/Sheldon in the pod outside Discovery:
knock-knock-knock…HAL…knock-knock-knock…HAL…knock-knock-knock…HAL

Smart, condescending, not an ounce of empathy? I think Sheldon would play HAL. Sheldon is HAL.

Also, you might want to ask for a forum change.

Sorry, I thought polls were strictly IMHO territory.

In any case, I thought Sheldon looked the most like Dave Bowman.

Talk about look-alikes, maybe we can work in Salman Rushdie as Stanley Kubrick:

You’d have to work the women in somehow. Maybe in a rewrite of 2010, not 2001?

And consider maybe Howard’s Mom instead of Kripke or Sheldon as the voice of HAL?

I think Star Trek would lend itself better to a TBBT rendition. But maybe that’s just because I’d be curious see Kaley Cuoco Sweeting as a green skinned Orion slave girl wearing not much of a metal bikini. Or maybe some sort of role-reversal dream sequence, with Bernie as Kirk, Amy as Spock, Penny as Scottie, Althea as McCoy, etc.

The flipside… in the closing credits, Kier Dullea in the apartment acting Sheldon-y.

Cool idea, though I agree Sheldon should be HAL. I can hear him saying “I’m sorry, Leonard, but I can’t do that.” And, yes, it has to be Leonard. I know he’s not the astronaut, but Leonard has to be the one to defeat Sheldon.

Oh, and Sheldon will sing “Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty.” instead of “Daisy Bell.”

I like this!

Of course, Sheldon being a sentient computer is what he’s wanted all along, isn’t it? Though I’d prefer if he were an Asenion* computer.

*Asenion = obeying the 3 (and later 4) Rules of Robotics as made famous by Isaac Asimov.

Rather than go the Family Guy/Blue Harvest route, I wonder if they could just structure an episode to subtly follow the structure of 2001. It would save them a fortune not having to build new sets. Shoot it as Kubrickesque as possible.

Act I: Amy leaves her iPhone next to the monkey cages in her lab and it inspires them to start using tools.

Act II: Bernadette lies about a quarantine at her lab to go shopping with Raj (in a basement shop, somewhere) to get a birthday present for Howard. On the way, they eat sandwiches.

Act III: Sheldon tricks Leonard into leaving the apartment (he sends him out to fix their WiFi, or something) and locks him out. He can’t allow Leonard to jeopardize his mission. He has the greatest enthusiasm for the mission. The mission is to set a new high score in Tetris. Leonard perilously goes out on the ledge and comes in through the window. He watches Sheldon fall asleep singing Soft Kitty.

Epilog: Leonard comes out of the hallway, sees himself eating dinner (at their new table), and then in bed.

Addendum: Penny and Leonard are outside the apartment door discussing Sheldon’s new Tetris addiction and making plans to take the game away from him. Sheldon is watching them through the peephole and reads their lips.

lol it only took one post…

If they have one of the female characters nearby, Raj can play the monolith.

No.

That guy that runs the comic book store…HE plays the monolith.
