Hi everyone, the day is today! Players are walking the gold carpet a mere mile from my front door. I’m on the outside looking in having failed in my attempts to score a seat in the building to heckle the Packers fans and boo the Jets pick on behalf of the New Yorkers sitting at home.
This is the place where we can moan and scream about picks and reaches. Haggle over the winners and losers in the trades. And eventually grade our team performances over the next three days.
The Bucs are on the clock, anyone think that they’ll shock the world and take Mariotta or Williams here? Would send everyone in each team’s war room scrambling.
I’m trying to figure out what the best case scenario is for my Bears - definitely Williams, but that’s not happening - maybe Mariotta, but there’s no way someone doesn’t trade up in front of the Bears if he slips past the Titans - currently I’m thinking it’s either Scherff or White.
It is pretty absurd. I mean, it’s pointless jingoism to begin with, but the draft? Really? Maybe you should have a little American flag in the corner during the whole time with “SUPPORT THE TROOPS” flashing across the screen every 9 seconds. Never Forget.
Suddenly there are new rumors about the Bears looking to move up to 2 to grab Mariotta. Sounds like the Titans want a frigging ransom and I’m not sure Mariotta is clearly a can’t miss prospect. He’s no Luck and honestly I’m not sure he’s even safer than RGIII was heading into the draft…
According to ESPN the Bears are looking to include Cutler, which makes sense since he lives in Nashville in the offseason anyways, but the Titans justifiably aren’t that enthusiastic about it. I think I’d be willing, but if we need to package 2 Firsts plus Cutler that’s pretty tough to swallow. We’ll see, probably just fluff.
Pretty crazy that La’el Collins was potentially a 1st round pick and is now potentially a murder suspect. Still unclear if he’s even a person of interest or just a possible witness, but this is a new one for the Draft.
I feel a little guilty watching the draft and mostly ignoring the Bulls playoff game. Thankfully the Bulls are blowing out the Bucks so far, so maybe I’m not missing much knocks wood.
When Gruden says “the problem with Winston is that he makes too many bad decisions”, and then follows it up with discussion of his interceptions and other bad throws… I laugh a little bit.
He was booed when he tried to give props to the NFL. Guess people are still pissed at the league office.
1st Pick - Jameis Winston - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I’m going to go on record saying this pick is going to be an unmitigated disaster. Lovie and Jameis are about the worst recipe I can imagine for a bad franchise. Might not be Jamarcus bad…but it could be close.
NFL Network guys are saying the Titans need to draft Mariota because “You have the potential for a franchise QB! These don’t come around very often”
…other than literally every. single. draft.
No trade…must be Mariotta to the Titans. What’s the chances that there’s a trade happening later? If Williams or someone awesome slides to the Bears I wonder if that’d change the Titans mind.
2nd Pick - Marcus Mariota - Tennessee Titans
I like him better than Winston, but he feels like there are an awful lot of question marks around him for a guy so coveted. He’s not Ryan Leaf, but he might be RGIII. Wonder what will happen with Mettenberger, not sure it makes much sense to start and try and develop him this year.
