2016 NFL Draft Discussion

A speedy Will Fuller to team up with DeAndre Hopkins in Houston. Interesting.

Treadwell looks like a halfway decent possession guy at best. Bust potential is there. Doctson is probably better, but totally underwhelming WR class.

I too am not overly impressed with this WR class.

I like that there are a fair number of defensive linemen available for the Packers to pick.

HEY! We agree on a football thing for once!

Shocking!!!

I really don’t understand that trade for Houston. Washington was not going to take Fuller.

I like Doctson a lot, but this is not a pressing need for them. They definitely needed a big receiver and I realize the safeties who I wanted for them were all taken already, and there are tons of high quality defensive linemen still available, but this seems like a luxury pick to me and the Redskins aren’t exactly in that kind of position.

As far as defensive linemen go, sure this draft is as deep as it may ever be with them, but at some point, probably starting very early tomorrow, there’s going to be a big run on those guys.

Y’know, as I’ve been typing this, and learning more about Doctson than I did, and considering Garcon and DJax are both upcoming FAs, I’m coming around on this pick. There aren’t any safeties left worth taking this high, and again the DL pool is ocean deep, so while I would have liked them to maybe look at an ILB I know their GM won’t take Myles Jack unless he falls to the 3rd day, which he won’t, and I’m not really a big fan of Ragland either, unless he also falls to the later rounds, which he won’t. So I guess I’m good with this. It could end up being quite the shrewd move.

I disagree. He has issues with separation because of bad route running, but these can be taught. He had a bad leg injury and I could see that being a reason to pass.

Love the William Jackson III pick for the Bengals.

Speaking of trades, Denver traded up with Seattle for…?

Not sure it makes sense to trade up and take a first-round QB. Find a good second-rounder and get a decent free agent in there for a year or two.

Poor Denver…

Hey, we all know what successes Tommy Maddox, Jay Cutler, and Tim Tebow were. And don’t forget Brian Griese.

I think I just made myself sad.

Cards go boom or bust with Nkemdiche. I tend toward bust, but they have a pretty good team (if Palmer can stay upright), so he might be worth a swing for the fences.

Niners trade back into the end of the 1st Round for… QB Connor Cook?
NO!
Stanford guard Joshua Garnett, my ideal pick for their 2nd Rounder. Nice draft so far.

I feel kinda bad for Tunsil. I couldn’t care less about a player smoking weed (except insofar as they run aground of the NFL’s outdated marijuana policy) and it sounds like he’s already having problems with his shady stepdad (who denied hacking his twitter account, but who knows). Hopefully his slide is a bit of a wake-up call and he pulls it together from here on out.

Really surprised Myles Jack slipped out of the first round… but if I recall correctly, his insurance policy pays him $5M if he slips that far, so it’s not a total loss. I’d still be thrilled if the Raiders got him. The knee issue that got reported recently is that he may need meniscus surgery in the future… is that really such a big deal?

I’m tenuously happy about the Raiders pick… they need safeties, and lots of people had Joseph as the best one available (depending on if they saw Ramsey as a S or CB). Lots of comparisons to Bob Sanders. I’m not wild about taking a dude coming off injury, but ACLs aren’t as big of a deal anymore.

Happy to see Denver trade up for a questionable QB. Elway must have a boner for tall QBs, replacing the 6’8" Osweiler with the 6’7" Lynch.

Also thought the 49ers trade up was questionable… I think guard is a position that’s more important than a lot of people think (coupled with overrating the tackle position) but not sure he’s a guy worth trading up for. The whole point of having so many picks is that you get multiple throws of the dice… it’s all a crapshoot at the end.

Might as well use the ammo for a guy you like, especially if it means leapfrogging your division rival who wanted the same guy.

Ideally, you’re right. TT said there was no action on the trade front though. He also said Bosa had been the top player on our board since September! So, I’d have liked Buckner for the potential… but i can’t say Bosa doesn’t make us a better team. And, he addressed exactly what I wanted him to!

Players I like in the 2nd Round for SD

Nick Martin (Ideally would be 3rd, but I don’t think he lasts that long)

Jeremy Cash (Same as above, probably goes in the 2nd somewhere)

Both of these guys would be good targets in a trade down scenario. But, again, there needs to be a partner.

Reggie Ragland- surprisingly falls out of the first due to an enlarged aorta. However, it isn’t supposed to hinder his football career, so that seems dumb. We don’t have anybody behind Teo and Perryman you really want taking real snaps on the team, so he’d be a really good pickup.

Cody Whitehair

There’s a lot of DT’s that didn’t go in the first that could have that are availble. Reed, Billings, Jones, Johnson. Probably a pipe dream after taking Bosa, if we take another DLineman, its more likely to be later rounds.

I HATE the pick, the Cardinals seem to think that since they got lucky with Mathieu, they can turn around anyone. I hope I’m wrong, but somehow I can see a headline for a DUI arrest in Scottsdale and marijuana found in the car.

Is Denver going to start Lynch as a rookie? Everyone seems to agree you can’t do that. Otherwise, what are they going to do?

Do they have the cap room to sign Fitz? That seems like the obvious match. Maybe Fitz will lower his demand a bit to be on the super bowl winner/contenders.
