2016 NFL Draft Discussion

Having watched him for the past three years, Aguayo is money from 20 in (and damn good at any distance under 50). Given the new rules, there’s value in that, although I thought the Bucs would wait until the 3rd/4th round to take him. They must have gotten a whiff that somebody else was interested. It does seem like they gave up a lot to get him. They had the extra 4th round from yesterday, but trade your 3rd? I dunno. Love the kid and happy for him, but might have been a bit of a misstep by the Bucs. I really think he would have been there in the 3rd round (or at least they could have only traded away the extra 4th round pick to move to where they needed to).

I think you’re misreading the trade. They gave a 4th to go up from the 74th pick to the 59th pick. If they don’t give the third there’s no trade, then it’d just be charity.

Still makes it kinda dumb, but the trade value is pretty much identical to all the others in this round.

Wonder if the Bears will consider RB Jordan Howard in the 3rd. Still need help on defense, especially in the secondary, but I’m sure they’ll take RB at some point. Maybe they grab Kendall Fuller in the 3rd and run an all Fuller edge.

Raiders took two DEs in rounds 2 and 3. I wonder if that’s a bad sign for Mario Edwards’ neck injury.

The Bears grabbed a solid 5-technique guy in the 3rd, Jonathan Bullard out of FLA. Haven’t watched any of his tape and don’t know much about him, but I loved the write up until I got to this line…“Leggy with duck-footed gait.” That’s as bad of a red flag as I can think of, I’d rather he strap on a bong, steal some laptops and live at home with his mom cooking spaghetti.

Admittedly, I’m one of those guys who’s pretty low on Hackenberg (he looked absolutely dreadful the past two seasons, and I don’t think you can blame that on Franklin’s scheme - the guy missed 1 out of every 5 of his screen passes for crying out loud)… but the Jets feel like a terrible situation for him. It’s sounding like Fitzpatrick and the Jets might be heading for a permanent divorce, and the only other guys they have are fellow developmental prospects Geno Smith and Bryce Petty. That’s not a good situation for a guy who’s going to need a LOT of rebuilding. Somewhere like the Bears would’ve made a lot more sense.

Yeah, if he’s forced to start as a rookie that’s probably a really bad thing.

Ahhh…looking deeper, you’re right. When I read about it, I thought they swapped 2nd rounds spots and added a 3rd and 4th. Not swapped their 3rd and the extra 4th for a 2nd. Okay, better deal then.

I hope you don’t mind that I edited that for you.

I basically ignore critiques from the pundits when they say he’s not a scheme fit. Like our own coaches don’t understand our own scheme. Do, they draft the guy and in the middle of the celebration… Pagano pipes up… “But wait a minute guys… we run the 3-4… NOOOOOOOOOO! CALL THE COMMISSIONER! MULLIGAN MULLIGAN!” It also discounts the possibility that a coach may have specific plans and ideas in mind to gasp change things up. Not to mention, in our defense… its only a 34- because we decide to call it that. It’s a hybrid, really. We play 34 and 43 fronts. So, when pundits say this crap, to me, they are exposing their lack of knowledge/research regarding the team.

TT said Bosa will play at DE, not LB. My thought is that Bosa will move all over the line, he’ll be a good at run defense. Average to above average getting at the QB- and he’ll be a good to really good player for us. (I’m also ignoring the JJ Watt comparisons. That is both unfair to Bosa, and really only apt because they’re both white guys that play DE. Other than that, I don’t see it)

In the end, a line of Liuget/Mebane/Bosa is going to be significantly better for us than Liuget/Lissemore/Reyes. Should do a better job freeing up the linebackers to do their thing.

I like the new players today. I expected us to get a TE and C out of the draft, but I expected the TE to be more of a development guy from Day 3. So that pick surprised me. But he seems like a talented kid, good blocker. I’d love to see if we can work some two tight end sets a la the Patriots with Gronk and Hernandez.

The C Tuerk, I didn’t know much about other than I always saw his name in the Center listings. But I was so obsessed with getting Martin… I never read much about him. Apparantly tall and lean for a Center, but so was Hardwick when we got him (at the exact same draft position). Hardwick had to work hard to keep weight on, hopefully he can share some nutritional tips. Tuerk is supposedly a great athlete though, can really move and pulls like a guard. The people on the Charger board I go to, and some of the places I get football stuff from are pretty high on him. So, I’m optimistic about it.

Day 3- I think we really need to get a safety out of this draft class. I can’t believe Jeremy Cash is still there and available. I also have read great things about Deandre Houston Carson.

Andrew Billings is somehow still available, and I don’t know why.

Westerman is still available. I wouldn’t mind picking up another interior lineman.

Brad Doughty looks like he could be a good quarterback project to pick up. Rivers is going to be winding down soon enough. :frowning:

Pfft I’ve been waiting 20 years for a pro team and I get Jared Goff. Hrmmph.

The Titans took Derrick Henry, Bama’s Heisman-winning RB. Not sure of the logic, after they acquired DeMarco Murray, but they got him on the 45th pick overall, so that’s pretty cheap for a Heisman winner.

That’s two years in a row they got the Heisman winner. Has that happened before?

As painful as it is for me to say, I do like the Browns draft so far this year. And they have the two top picks in the 4th round and a whole night/morning to review and get their best players available.

I’m not sold on Coleman, I’m not sure he has the grit and smarts to be Steve Smith instead of Tavon Austin, but I can see why he’s so interesting. I really like the Ogbah then Nassib picks. They’re completely different players, with Ogbah being more of a pass rusher and Nassib and tough guy to move, but they were good, solid value where picked. Shonn Coleman (whats up with the Browns love of Colemans?) could be a solid addition to that O line (I think they were dumb to let Schwartz go though), especially if Cam Erving doesn’t get a lot better than last year.

I’m not the greatest fan of Cody Kessler, he’s certainly a “win with” not “win because of” QB, but with that position so much in flux with the Browns, I do think it’s good to have a guy who is accurate and can run an offense, even if he’s likely nothing more than a backup. Plus, I’m all for picking a QB every year.

While the Browns still need to improve that linebacking corp, I’m not a fan of most of the guys available here. Instead, I think they should go BPA and maybe fill out their skill positions on offense. Jordan Howard would be a nice complement to Duke Johnson. And WR is still a big need, and I love me some Mike Thomas from Southern Miss and Rashard Higgins is another nice option here. If they still need to focus on that defense, Jeremy Cash is available too.

As an aside, the Bucs taking a kicker, especially one who struggled outside of 40 yards, in the second round is one of if not the, dumbest things in this years’ draft.

Why is it painful? Hating the Browns is like hating some harmless retarded kid.

Because they’re owned by a complete douchebag. I feel for the fans, for sure, but until Haslam sells them, I’m hard pressed to wish anything good for the Browns.

Dumbest things of all time.

I understand the point, but the Bears fucked it up with Shea McClellin and we see how that worked out.

The bad scheme fit is basically the necessary counterpoint to the dogmatic BPA strategy. And it is valid. Good coaches should be able to adapt to their players somewhat, but some guys just flat don’t fit.

A player from Stony Brook whole family is wearing Snuggies.

I like the Texans selection of Braxton Miller. Lots of upside potential, and has the ability to breakdown the secondary.
