Anytime you can trade 3 draft picks for a QB with 13 college games under his belt ya gotta do it…
I look forward to years and years of sparring between Hamlet and Omniscient about the value of moving up to take a QB.
Hopefully he’s bright enough not to lock himself in a bathroom unlike last years #2.
As a Packers fan…I approve this message.
Everyone seems to forget that every year people talk about late first/2nd round QB picks that go way too high, then everyone is shocked when it happens every year. It’s such a QB-dominated league that people are just wrong when they mock/value them so low. Yeah, they’re much higher risks than similarly ranked players from other positions, but the reward for hitting on them is far, far higher.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mahomes at #12 and Watson in the middle of the first round either, even though no one thinks they’re as good at QB as other players in the running for a mid first round pick are at their position.
Only if Trubisky doesn’t pan out. If he does, it will have been worth it. That’s a pretty steep price to pay to move up one spot to get a QB with limited career production though.
Yup. I thought Trubisky was the best QB prospect in the draft. Like the completion percentage, arm talent and accuracy. Would not have complained about him at #3 and I don’t think the signing of Glennon means a damn thing. Mahomes was basically Cutler 2.0 which had a certain appeal as a 2nd round gamble, but Trubisky is safer. Wish he was taller, but that’s probably okay.
If you’re 100% certain that the 49ers had a buyer at #2 who wanted the QB, which is pretty much what I argued two dozen posts ago, then I guess it’s worth it if he’s a franchise guy. Big gamble and we sure as shit were desperate, hope Pace’s scouting is sound.
Yeah, my issue is less that they spent that much for a QB, but more that they might have been able to get him without giving up anything. If they’d have been sitting at #10, no complaints, I just have a fear they got suckered here.
Hmm, wonder if the Browns were considering trading up from 12 to 2 to get Trubisky…
Wow. Two WR in the top 7. Who would have guessed that?
Like the Williams pick a lot.
I agree, but that’s not saying a whole lot.
That’s the only way the trade makes sense. I can understand it if the 49ers called the Bears and told them they had a suitor lined up, but would be willing to let the Bears in if they paid enough (if it’s a lie, damn that’s some impressive salesmanship on the Niners part). But if the Bears just called the Niners and made that offer, it would be ridiculously stupid.
And what constitutes a “Franchise guy”? Bortles has been a starter for 3 years now, is he a “franchise guy”? Ryan Tannehill? Carson Wentz? Carson Palmer? Tyrod Taylor? Is just being a starter for a few years enough to earn that term, and thus the value? Or do you have to actually produce?
My ideal for the Lions would be to trade down and still Jabrill Peppers early in the second. My actual guess is they’ll end up with one of the TEs at 21.
Rumor is the Browns are trying to trade for Kirk Cousins. Only way that makes sense to do now is if they had a package they offered the Niners for Trubisky and the Bears #3 was more appealing than the Browns #12. The Browns need to make that deal before they are on the clock.
Gotta be a guy who can win you playoffs games when the defense is letting you down. A guy that can bring you back from down 10 against a decent team. A guy defenses scheme against and have to adjust for.
He doesn’t need to be Tom Brady, but he needs to be at least Eli Manning or Tony Romo in their primes. Occasionally frustrating is okay, so long as they bring more to the table than they take off.
Well, at least we didn’t give up a future 1st rounder…
Every offensive player picked makes me a bit happier.
Sorry Alex Smith.
If…IF the Bengals skill players can stay healthy (Tyler Eifert, AJ Green, and now John Ross) AND they pick up a guy like Mixon in the second round, their offense is going to be SCARY good.
I really wanted Corey Davis in Philly. Christian McCaffrey is the type of player that makes me want to become an offensive coordinator. But man, there are some top-shelf defensive prospects still available. And O.J. Howard is still there? Man oh man.
Would the Eagles really take another TE?
