2018 Election Day Thread

Now 538 is up to 91% Dem – help us, Nathaniel Rakich, you’re our only hope!

538 model up to 92% Dem House

Fox News headline is “Dems Take House” but their probability meter only shows 82%. At least we know what their threshold for certainty of facts is.

Yep, best news of the night so far!

I have to screenshot Foxnews being the ones to call the House for Dems just in case it is wrong.

(I hope they are right).

Hietkamp goes down in ND. GOP +2 in Senate.

The Midterms have broken YouTube! I was trying to watch some of the live coverage but as soon as I play anything, out come the 500 error and the team of training monkeys.

Shitty voter suppression from a shitty state government works.

I think Fox “News” has the most useful graphics by constantly showing Net Gain for the House and Senate.

It’s over for Beto O’Rourke, and it wasn’t even really that close. A LOT of buzz a few hours ago about the meaning of the Beto phenomenon has just evaporated.

I’m exhaling a bit.

Respect to Nate Silver the Master Troll: “Model too aggressive”? Nah - he wanted to see a few heart attacks.

MSNBC calling Texas for Cruz.

Dammit.

There are more than a few historic wins tonight…so maybe this will put the pin to balloon of doomsayers and “America is the worst place on Earth!!”

How does a Republican lose in Kansas? Did he get caught masturbating in public before the election? I admit I didn’t follow that one very closely, but damn, how does that happen?

The difference was 17.8 points. Voter suppression doesn’t get you a difference that big.

Only backwards assed idiots get you there.

Their last R gov was absolutely awful, IIRC, and Kobach was a bad candidate.

ABC saying Ted Cruz is going to win.

If everyone’s breaking out the scotch, I have a little Speyburn left.

CO is sending Crow to the Senate and Polis to the governor’s mansion. Thanx, CO.

21 year old and I voted about 10:30 am at the local fire station. No line. I was directed to volunteer #2 and he was waved over to #1. She asked my name and address which I supplied. Then she asked for ID so I whipped out my (out of state*) Tribal ID. That flustered her and she asked if I had a driver’s license. I replied I did but I preferred to use my Tribal ID. She did some clicking on her PC and rolled my card around a few time… finally locating its expiration date (I just got a new one  ) and a few clicks later I was in the booth.

Here in Iowa they did away with the straight ticket vote this year so I carefully filled in each circle as I went down the front. On the back I skipped the whole local stuff since the only ones running were Republican. I did consider writing in various 20 somethings names but why stall the vote.

While I waited for the middle one to finish up several older people came in. Being asked for their name and address the first time went ok but the second time being asked that plus their birth date and their ID had them going deer jumping from a cornfield into headlights.

As I post this the Republican Governor of Illinois has conceded the race to his Democratic opposition and the local newsfeeds are filled with “Well, I’m moving.”
*Minnesota Tribe/Band but I live in Iowa. The State website only says “Tribal ID.”
