Vox article today :
In December 2012, a gunman walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and killed 20 children, six adults, and himself. Since then, there have been at least 1,607 mass shootings, with at least 1,846 people killed and 6,459 wounded .
The counts come from the Gun Violence Archive, a database that tracks events since 2013 in which four or more people (not counting the shooter) were shot at the same general time and location. The database’s researchers comb through hundreds of news stories, police reports, and other sources each day and individually verify the reports. Still, since some shootings aren’t reported, the database is likely missing some shootings, and some are missing details. The count is also a constant work in progress, so some of the numbers and details may be slightly imprecise.
(bolding mine)
1607 mass shootings in 5 years. Almost 1846 dead.

This list does not address mass shootings.
No, it does address mass killings tho, and many of those shot are also killed. It’s just a source for information, eh.
1,607 mass shootings, with at least 1,846 people killed and 6,459 wounded.
That means an average of 1.15 dead per “mass” shooting, and an average of 4.02 wounded. Certainly not a good thing, but it looks like we have defined “mass” waaayyyy downward.

That’s an average of 5.2 killed or wounded per incident. What do you think the minimum of wounded and dead should be to qualify as “mass”? The FBI defines mass killings as 4 or more so I think 5.2 shot meets the definition of mass shooting (I’m assuming the 4.02 wounded were shot - maybe not true).
26 February 2018 Van Buren TWP MI, 4 killed (shot?) (Suspect in gas station triple murder suspect dies by suicide in Ohio )

Killed: 50
In this case, five people died, but the Commissioner has ruled that the suicide does not count as it happened after a cooling-off period.
This incident is posted presuming that the killer died by his own hand.

Actually, 5 died, because one of the women was 7 months pregnant.
Where I live, if a fetus of any age dies in the commission of a crime, even if the mother makes a full recovery, the perpetrator can be charged with and convicted of “nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy”.
Isn’t that premature? The article says the police are looking into the possibility of suicide, but earlier have said they had no evidence the crash was intentional.
