I missed this last month, but it looks like everyone else did, as well: songwriter and steel guitar virtuoso Rusty Young has joined Heaven’s house band. He cofounded the country rock band Poco, and wrote two songs in heavy rotation on my playlist - “Crazy Love” and “Rose of Cimarron”. He died of a heart attack on April 14th.
They say a person is never truly dead until the last seed they’ve planted is gone. Rest now, Rusty - your legacy will live on.
Dammit. I did a search for “Rusty Young” before I posted that. I guess the April post never came up because his name was only mentioned in the link. Thanks, I’m glad to see Dopers didn’t let his death pass unnoticed.
Yeah, so are any of the child abuse claims against him(Paul Mooney) legit or are they not real? I had never heard of the claims until, well, yesterday. He was definitely a really funny comedian; I just wonder if any of these allegations were known to be true.
There’s a rumor that Mooney allegedly molested Richard Pryor’s son. Pryor was rumored to have wanted to have Mooney killed. It was started by Pryor’s bodyguard and was apparently only stopped when Pryor had his freebasing accident.
Richard Pryor, Jr has confirmed that he was raped as a child, but never actually said that it was Mooney who did it.
That’s the only thing I could find on his wiki entry. I don’t know what to believe about the allegations.
