2022 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Australian socialite and philanthropist Lillian Frank has died at 92.

Rebo, the Devil has better taste than to make a space in Hell for Chump.

Actress Robyn Griggs has died of cancer at age 49.

And here’s a link for confirmation.

Pete Carril, longtime hoops coach at Princeton, has directed his last offensive play at age 92.

I knew nothing about him until the 1989 NCAA tournament, when 16-seed Princeton almost beat 1-seed Georgetown, losing 50-49.

RIP Darius. He was a lot of fun, from his initial bursting onto the scene with his bizarre cover of “Hit Me Baby One More Time” to his chequered West End career. I always thought he would have made a good television presenter. And 41 is no age at all to die at.

When asked if he wanted to continue living, he said “Neigh!”

He gained popularity in 1981 for “Das Boot,” a World War II film that earned six Oscar nominations with two specifically for Petersen for directing and screenwriting.

That takes me back. Das Boot was the first movie I rented when I bought my first VCR.

I was very happy to find on disc the German TV mini-series the movie was cut from, nearly five hours of (almost) floaty goodness.

You may not remember the singer, but you do know the infamous movie scene they used her song in:

And yet Linda Ronstadt keeps stubbornly hanging on.

And she will do so until I remove her from my list

Or she’ll do what Ariel Sharon did and keep on hanging on until she’s only worth one point and then graciously give it to you.

One that we appear to have missed:

Frederick Waite, Jr., drummer for the British reggae band Musical Youth, has died at age 55.

No cause of death has been stated, and he apparently died around July 20, with the announcement coming only recently.

Tom Weiskopf, professional golfer, dies at age 79. Winner of many PGA Event and the 1973 British open. Pancreatic Cancer.

I guess this will be the day……
