2023 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

I’ve never been so successful at this game.

Pete Kozachik, stop motion animator who was visual effects supervisor for The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, and Coraline dead at 72 from primary progressive aphasia.

Also…

What a horrible way to get points. Illya Kuryakin isn’t supposed to die.

Agreed; I had a major crush on him as a teen.

Brooks Robinson has made his last putout at age 86.

The answer to my favorite sports trivia question: Which player has hit into the most triple plays in his career?

Robinson has hit into triple play an unbelievable four times.

mmm

I did not know that fact. Ignorance fought, once again.

Pete Kozachik dead at 72.

Pete Kozachik Dead: ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ Effects Artist Was 72 – The Hollywood Reporter

Post 1602.

Dumbledore #2 now gone. Can’t blame this one on Snape.

Some think this is heresy, but he was the superior Dumbledore.

I can’t disagree. Richard Harris was a fine actor but his Dumbledore was dull and croaky.

ETA: I saw Gambon in Krapp’s Last Tape on stage. He was a consummate Pinterian (and whatever adjective goes with Beckett) actor, conveying maximum emotional content with minimal words and movement.

Michael Gambon was always someone I knew of, but didn’t actually watch too often. I did see him in The Storyteller series about Greek Myths, and knew he was The Singing Detective and Maigret, but I didn’t watch those.

zadscmc and Jegpep get points for Gambon.

I mean, Richard Harris did capture the whimsy and “sparky eyes” of Dumbledore, but Gambon played a less old seeming Dumbledore and even though Dumbledore is massively old, he was always very youthful and quick moving. I think Gambon was much better for the big Dumbledore moments in Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince than Richard Harris ever would have been.

Harris just hadn’t been the same since someone left his cake out in the rain.

I don’t get this reference, but I do know the day he died, he was wheeled out of the hotel he was in and when he saw a small crowd, he yelled, “It was the food!!!”

Very funny man.

It’s a “MacArthur Park” song reference. The US version was sung by Donna Summer, but Richard Harris sang the version released in the UK.

The US had his version, too. I remember it well, unfortunately.

Dave Barry said something like, just when MacArthur Park was starting to die, Donna Summer came out with the disco version. “OH NOOOOOOOO…”
