2023 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Could be something, could be nothing.

But Kevin Spacey was just rushed to a hospital in Uzbekistan for a possible heart attack.

When Paul Simon played the Democratic Convention a few years ago I thought it was time for him to hang it up. He was unlistenable. I saw him after that and he was much better.

I wonder what was up with Elton John in 2020 during the pandemic special he performed on. He sounded slurred. Is he normally better even nowadays?

Elton has played his last gig.

I mean, he’s not dead. He’s just retired. At 76 he hasn’t got the voice for his own songs anymore.

At 66 he didn’t have the voice for his own songs anymore.

Sadly true.

So this does seem to happen. Bono is still doing really great stuff with U2, but his more recent recording of older songs “Still Haven’t Found”, etc…he does not sound as good as 1980’s or 90’s Bono.

I wondered with the Elton John video if he had taken some medication. His voice was…slurred/jumbled? Anyway, he’s terrific and has had a great career singing and writing music. He can relax.

Billy Joel has had the same issue. At least, to an extent. He sometimes passes the high notes off to backup or guest vocalists. He even talks about it during his shows.

When he did his last pop album, I really thought he’d do another one one day. It’s been 30 years now, I think, and I guess he really isn’t going to do another.

Is it wrong that I’m disappointed when I see a new count on this thread only to find that it’s only a discussion and nobody has died?

I know! It’s October and I have no points!

It’s not just you, @Reeses_Monkey. I get excited, thinking that maybe this year Linda Ronstadt is finally going to do me a favor, and then I get bupkis.

That made me laugh. I’m going to hell.

As I once said, some years back I got my first and only points on December 27.

That is not nearly as bad as what happened last year when Pele kicked off on the 29th and four of us thought we had the final hours award sewed up, but some reporter dude went and stole it from us. I had Pele on my list for years and here he was about to pay big for me, but nooooo.

Bear’s great Dick Butkus has died at 80.

And just like that, my hopes for a Hang Time reboot are destroyed.

Glynis Johns turned 0 points! Happy birthday!

If she goes she will be a unique pick for me.

She, Henry Kissinger, and Jimmy Carter were all born very close, then.

Any other recent or soon-to-be famous centenarians? Carter is 1 year away, still. It’d put it at very low odds he is surviving to 100 based on what we are hearing, but I am ever hopeful.

Kissinger, of course, will live to 110 and have his head put in a jar like on Futurama.
