2023 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Here’s the winning totals from 2013 on:

2013 385
2014 241
2015 300
2016 482
2017 331
2018 454
2019 343 (me!)
2020 247
2021 247
2022 265

ETA: I didn’t play in 2013, and I got a big fat zero in my first attempt in 2014, but since then, my worst year (wrt both points and ranking) was 2020, when I finished with 143 points and tied for 9th. I’d love to have 143 points right now!

David Kirke won’t be bouncing back from this one.

I’m not even in the pool this year, because in all the years I did play, I haven’t even tallied 241 total points.

I had Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett that year. Didn’t get the trifecta!

Still no points this year. Those evil politicians I picked have made deals with the devil, I tell ya!

I have a themed list elsewhere that involves police and government officials in Uvalde and the state of Texas. Not a single one has passed.

Better than the forty-six points you would have gotten for Mahatma Gandhi and Orville Wright back in 1948.

Stuntman Taraja Ramsess, 41, was killed in an auto accident on October 31 that also claimed the life of three of his children.

Ramsess had been in Creed III and Wakanda Forever, as well as the Hunger Games franchise.

Horrific.

I was sad to discover actress Lara Parker died back on October 12 at the age of 84. She was amazing as Angelique on Dark Shadows and deserves to be noted here.

Two of those years it was my points listed (ie winner in 2012, 2015 & 2022) I used the same strategy for this year and I have zip. I have never been out of the top 10 (possibly top 5, would have to check to be sure). I should have used my themed list here. At least I have points in that pool.
I only remember one time when the defending champ got a goose egg the following year, and that was when Rachm Qoch went out in a blaze of glory picking all the members of an obscure death cult.
And just for fun … here is the post with past winners. It needs updating. https://boards.straightdope.com/t/archival-list-of-death-pool-winners-awards-2003-present/805718

I always loved reading @Rachm_Qoch 's lists each year on January first. Because you knew, these folks gonna die. :astonished:

I just transferred the data over to a spreadsheet that is live. If anyone would like to help edit it and add more recent results, I’d appreciate it:

I fixed your typo! Lastt → Last

Yeah, I still remember 2015. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

2014 was my first Death Pool, and I got zero, but I’ve been in the top 10 every year since, including a first and a second.

You know, I’ve been on this board for over 20 years, and I can’t recall ever having seen any posts by @Rachm_Qoch at any point in my history here.

I think he only ever posted in the Death Pool threads.

I just remember him from the Death Pools. I don’t know how he did it, but he did it. I mean, I would have accused cheating if we didn’t literally see that his list was in before Jan 1.

It was an incredible time on the Death Pool.

Not without its controversy. I don’t know if he came out and explicitly said it but it seemed like his death cult pick and subsequent disappearance was in response to criticism from others. He did stretch the definition of celebrity.

Are we sure he didn’t cheat, for example by breaking rule 7.

Former NFL player Matt Ulrich, who won a Super Bowl in 2006 as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, has died at 41.
