It was interesting driving around after last weekend’s snowstorm. There was more snow than I realized – great big mountains of piled-up snow everywhere, in some cases blocking the view at intersections and in parking lots. I don’t think I’ve seen this much snow in the roughly dozen years I’ve lived in this area. And almost all of it was just this month, over a period of a few weeks.
Blizzard tonight. WOO-HOO!
The forecast for Mon evening/Tues was for 3-5" of snow. Low of 33. It’s been in the 60s most days recently. I figured the streets, etc. would be so warm that most if not all of the snow wouldn’t stick.
Yesterday afternoon the forecast turned into a full blown Blizzzzzzzard Warnnnnninnnng! 4-10" overnight into early this afternoon with gusts to 60. The warning urged people to stay home, don’t travel. Don’t even think of it.
The first radar sign of the storm was a narrow band moving length-wise to our north. Fairly static in terms of side-to-side movement. Later on it finally shifted over us but was still rain. (The first rain in many months.)
During the night I checked a couple times. A light coat of snow on cars, grass, etc. Wet streets. Soon after we got up the Sun and wind dried out the streets and sidewalks. Went out to refill the bird feeder this morning and didn’t step on any snow to do it.
The blizzard warning was canceled. So the forecast was just a wee bit off.
Where roughly are you that all this weather-ageddon failed to happen?
It snowed about 10 cm in Tokyo yesterday! All my friends were telling me about it. Tokyo gets about that much snow once every several years
As I write this on Friday, March 14 it is 80 degrees out (in the Midwest).
Tomorrow night the forecast is for a low of 28 degrees–and a chance of snow.
Wow, it’s definitely mid-March. I went out to the car today to run some errands with my winter jacket in my hand, and just dumped it on the seat beside me. Never wore it. In fact I turned off the heat entirely because the intense sunshine was making the car almost hot enough to need A/C. Alas, winter is over. We could still get a freak snowstorm, but the utility of the garage as an auxiliary refrigerator is rapidly coming to an end.
We had about 5 cm of snow the other day and my son was surprised how wet it was.
My kids don’t know how spoiled they are. Not everywhere gets powder snow for most of the year.
It was 82 degF 24 hours ago and now it’s snowing.
Colorado mountains here. 6"s predicted for my area today. I plowed about 2 days ago, and will need to plow again.
All the snow here (southern Ontario) melted weeks ago, but I was amazed to see a temperature of 20°C (68°F) a few days ago while it was still technically winter. The garage is no longer useful as a refrigerator.
We might still get a freak snowfall but it’s becoming increasingly unlikely.
Colorado high country here. We are supposed to get a foot of snow tomorrow, April 1st.
Here, too. Maybe 15". Better put the plow back on!
I used to take the plow off, but it’s sort of pointless. Also we don’t bother with summer/winter tires. It’s snow tires year round.
It ain’t over til it’s over.
Catching up. Got a couple of light dustings over the previous couple weeks. Nothing stuck to the roads. No shoveling. A week ago Friday I was mowing the lawn in 83 degree weather. On Monday, it snowed some (nothing stuck).
For several days they were predicting 2-4" of snow Friday and Friday night. Nights in the 20s and a high Friday of 31 (we actually got to 36).I figured the leftover heat would keep the roads clear and as usual thought the forecast amount was high.
On Friday, only the coldest surfaces like roofs were barely white. Late in the evening stuff started to stick. This AM, the grass was slightly white. The roads were whitish in patches. I figure the moisture had frozen in spots and the snow stuck there. Lots of sunshine and now it’s mostly gone.
This could be the last of it. OTOH, it might not. The local weather gods like to dump a bunch of snow on the trees once they are leafed out, breaking branches, etc.
I apologize, but I’ve forgotten where you (roughly) live. Weather reports make a lot more sense with that info as background.
There’s also a location field in your profile where you could put your rough location if you’re willing to share.
