How do you get hit by something that moves that slowly? Was her heel stuck in a grate?

It says that she was run over. I would guess a phone or other distraction was involved. All it would take is for her to get knocked down in front of it, or perhaps to get snagged and pulled under (the accident was described as “horrific”, that fits). Also, garbage trucks can move at a clip: 20 or 25 is not slow if you are not paying attention.

I saw this in the baseball thread:

Former MLB pitcher Fernando Valenzuela has died at 63.

If all the isekai I watch has taught me anything, she’s been reincarnated as a nobleman’s daughter in a fantasy world and will have enormous magical powers.

He was breathing out of the wrong eyelid.

I had a friend literally run over on her bike by a dump truck. She was going straight through a green light and the dump truck when turned left into (over) her. She had large tread mark shaped scars over her thigh but miraculously not too seriously injured. Her bike helmet on the other hand was completely split in two. Too bad Cindy didn’t have a helmet, might have had a different (pointless) outcome.

What on earth does this mean?

Bull Durham reference.

Do we have Tarzan and Doc Savage down (Ron Ely) for September 29th, and confirmed today?

I spent a summer during college as a ride-along for a garbage company after another job I had lined up fell through at the last minute.

Garbage trucks aren’t particularly slow. They can easily hit highway speeds on a highway. If they aren’t in the process of starting and stopping regularly to pick up garbage, they move with the speed of traffic.

In other words, if it’s not actively picking up on its route, you have just as good of a chance of being hit by a garbage truck as any other vehicle. And due to the size, it’ll probably do more damage. And since it tends to ride higher than other vehicles, it’s less apt to see things right in front of it.

I had the impression that garbage trucks tend to be similar to cab-overs, presumably just for this reason.

What a terrible way to lose his wife and son.

I had the “pleasure” of working an auto accident that involved a garbage truck and a Hyundai Sonata. Apparently, the young girl in the Hyundai was texting while driving, and ran a stop sign. The garbage truck had the right of way and was traveling at speed (roughly 35-40mph, if I remember correctly). The driver had no time to stop to avoid hitting her. The truck impacted the driver’s side door.

We picked up what remained of her from the passenger seat.

Well, so much for the long-awaited “Man of Bronze” sequel.
