If there’s no definitive data of birth, then the rules say that the later number is used, resulting in the lowest points being awarded.
I’ve always wondered about this. I don’t mean points-wise, but how can there be zero accurate record for her birth? I wonder if, when she does die, we’ll find out?
I remember Al Lewis always claimed to be much older than he was. He claimed around 1910, but it was really 1923. It all came out clearly when he died, though. I mean, records do exist, but people just lie about their age.
The issue with Charo is that, unlike most celebrities who just lie about their birthdate, she actually had her birthdate legally changed.
Does this mean we know for sure what it was before it was changed?
We don’t know with absolute certainty but there is very strong evidence Charo was born on March 13, 1941. That is the date on her birth certificate (it’s also the date she used on her first passport). Charo has spoken of her early life and school years and a 1941 birthdate seems to match those recollections.
But later in life, Charo began telling people that she was actually born later (she switched the year a few times). She said the 1941 birthdate was made up to make her look older in order to advance her career and the documents supporting that date are false.
This culminated in a 1977 court appearance when Charo produced affidavits from her parents saying she was born on January 15, 1951. The judge said why not and declared that was now her legal birthdate.
Since her birthday was adjudicated to be 1951, and that’s the year that results in the fewest points, that would be the year that we would use.
That’s my understanding of the rules, anyway.
