2024 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

I thought we all understood that old people are not a good bet because of how much practice they have had at not dying. I always think back to Orson Bean who, at 91, had to be hit by two cars before he could die.

Yeah, I like to quote George Burns (1896-1996): “If you live to be one hundred, you’ve got it made. Very few people die past that age.”

I met him once when I was in Little League. A few years ago I had a themed 69 Mets list. Could have used him then.

I checked, and while I said he wouldn’t die on my watch, I did some checking-and he didn’t die on my watch, because I had gone off duty two and a half hours before! I checked the chart and the actual person on watch scribbled in “comma” something…I can’t seem to make out the rest of the name.

I met him at a church event in 1968 or 69. I have an autographed BB from that event (do I know where did I put that?). I met him again at a Trenton Thunder game around 2012/3 (I can’t find a reference for that). He seemed to be a very gracious person.

Sidenote: my 92-year-old father was hit by a speeding car a couple of years ago. Knocked him into the air and onto the windshield. Escaped with a broken leg (below the knee) and bruising. Still going strong years later. He may be unkillable (not that I want him to die, mind you).

I wouild like to put out a request to all players to check their lists. I have some numbers not adding up in my calculations but if I have left anyone’s points off nobody is complaining so far.

I am working hard t catch up on passing out points, as I have added them in for a couple celebs.

You missed my 2 points for Peter Marshall, which moves me from 73rd place to… :frowning: 73rd place.

I was checking my list and got excited because I saw that he died. Then I looked at the date: 29 May 1957. Wrong James Whale.

Biotop, that is one change I have noted and when I put up the newest list that will be taken care of. Sorry.

I think I had him on my list several years ago.

Folks I need your help. I have been trying to reconcile my list of names and have been having trouble with it. The celebrities I have noted do not match up with the points on my list.

The following is a list of the names I think have been posted so far and how many points each is worth. If you keep track of such things please let me know if you see any discrepancies. I’m sure they are there. The list is more or less in the order they croaked.

David Soul 20
Franz Beckenbauer 22
Joyce Randolph 1
Peter Schickele 12
Jonnie Irwin 50
Toby Keith 38
Bobby Hehir 35
Lefty Driesell 8
Jason Smith 50
Kenneth Mitchell 51
Chris Mortenson 28
OJ Simpson 24
Rocket Norton 27
Paul Auster 23
Mohammed Deif 42
Gena Rowlands 6
James Earl Jones 7
Peter Marshall 2
Ed Kranepool 21
Shannon Doherty 47
Ruth Westheimer. 4
Bob Newhart 6
John Mayall 10
Jane McAlevey 41
Rob Burrow 59
Corey Williams 54
Willie Mays 7

Dabney Coleman is not on this list.

Add Richard Simmons.

Hi Baker,

In addition to the names listed by Stephe96 and DungBeetle:
Dabney Coleman 8
Richard Simmons 24
here are two other names that I think are missing:
Richard Lewis 24
Roger Corman 2

Thanks to Steph96, Dung Beetle, and Kitten Mitten for their help. A problem I had was that I added points to a lot of people for a poster who wasn’t dead. In taking them off I think I made more mistakes. I spent hours yesterday and today trying to reconcile the totals, and I think there are still a couple of issues with the list I am about to post. If anyone sees more mistakes please please PLEASE let me know. I have really tried to get this thing right. In the future I should pay even more attention to entries. Never hesitate to tell me if you see something you think needs correcting. And unlike a certain political candidate I didn’t go looking for points for me, lol, I’m still in last place.

Woohoo! I’ve moved up to 14th place!

Herbie Flowers is taking a walk on the underside.

I do like this quote from an interview he did for “Bass Player”:
