No, let’s not do this. Keep the rules as they are. Alternatives are only relevant before Jan 1.
That’s my understanding of what @Baker was saying, and I disagree with the notion. The alternatives are there in case someone dies prior to January 1. I don’t think they should be bumped into the main list for any other reason.

Here’s my suggestion if we’re discussing rule changes: You get a bonus point if a celebrity dies and you were the first person to post them as a pick. This means all unique picks (who die) get a bonus point.
I feel this would incentivize people to post early in December rather than wait until the 31st (which must overwhelm Baker) and it would discourage people from jumping on bandwagons. It would also serve as a sort of tie breaker for celebrities chosen by multiple people (like the groups of people we have at 97, 53, and 47 points).
Administratively I don’t think it would be that much extra work. I assume Baker has a database which lists all of the celebrities that have been chosen and which posters chose them. She would just need to do something like add an asterisk to the person who picked them first and then give that person a bonus point if the celebrity died.
This sounds problematic too. Imagine someone posted a candidate the year before but he did not die. Now this year someone posts the same candidate again before the first participant submits a list. Who is first?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. My post in the Themed game was mostly in jest - (JESTING IN THE DEATH POOL IS NOT ALLOWED!).
I’m actually in favor of simplifying the rules. How about NO alternates, just 13 “lucky” submissions. If one dies before the kick-off, you’re just in the running for the final death of the year prize (equally important on your Linkedin resume to the overall title).
No problem. I think it’s obvious that alternates will not move up, as I, the Death Mistress, would find it to be a hell of a lot more work!!! 
That’s not how it works. If I submit a list of names on December 25, 2024 that list is for 2025. So if one of my picks then dies on December 31, 2024 they didn’t die in the right year. They’re not the final death of 2025 if they die in 2024.
That’s 36 big, big points for Ponch8!!!

Just for the record, I’m also of the opinion that alternates should NOT advance if/when one of the original 13 picks dies.
