Agreed. Especially at DT. They run a 3-4 defense and have Dexter Lawrence as their starting DT. I guess they drafted him to spell sexy Dexy? I don’t love spending 3.01 on a long-term backup.
No love for the offensive line? Just sticking with the garbage fire they’ve had for years? I know they feel like they significantly upgraded it last year, but on the field that “upgraded” OL was still somewhere between a sieve and paper mache.
Pete Carroll always had a checkered history drafting OLs. Now with the Raiders it feels like that pattern is continuing. Can’t say I like this Raiders draft at all. Kind of a dumpster fire.
I’m predicting Sanders to the Jets at pick 110 tomorrow.
Yeah, he used to draft people who weren’t linemen but were big and athletic, with the idea that he could train them and they’d do well.
And I watched over a decade of crappy OL play. It was a good thing that Russell Wilson was really good at scrambling and escaping sacks when his legs were young.
The O line was better last year but that’s in comparison to the year before which was probably the worst line I’ve ever seen. I’m not saying Daniel Jones is great but he was running for his life most of the time. If they don’t improve the protection it doesn’t matter who they have as QB. And it doesn’t matter how good the defense is if the offense is three and out.
Looking at that video makes me think that Mel should retire and ESPN should look to replace whoever was responsible for that broadcast. Cam Ward was going #1. It wasn’t a secret. Why were they only showing Shaduer highlights before the pick?
My nephew works for ESPN. I’m glad he wasn’t involved in this. He did do the NBA draft.
I think all media analysts overlook the importance of personality and locker room fit. A physical monster who can overwhelm college opponents will fall if he doesn’t actually like playing football.
A player will drop precipitously if they give coaches the impression they don’t need coaching.
Not sure whether this should go here, politics or factual questions!
Given Trump’s comments on Sanders not being picked in the first round, and his attempts to get involved in the NFL could he issue an Executive Order compelling a team select him?
At this point, my guess is that Shedeur Sanders gets selected by Dallas.
I think a lot of teams crossed him off their board because of the drama he’d bring to a team. Jerry Jones is the only person I can imagine who might enjoy the spectacle (or be deluded enough to think he can manage it).
As I understand it, executive orders outline the administration’s particular interpretation or directed execution of a particular, already-existing law; they cannot create law. I’d be surprised if there’s an existing law which could be used to compel a private corporation to hire a particular person for “reasons.”
No funding and they gave up their tax exempt status a few years ago. But that was just a meaningless PR stunt for people who don’t understand what taxes are.
The Bears just drafted the first non-Combine player if we can trust the broadcast. Ruben Hyppolite II, LB out of Maryland, ran a 4.3 40 at his pro day so at least he can fly. Hopefully he is more than a special teams guy for us, we need to upgrade that 3rd LR spot for sure. He’s also got an awesome name.
That’s weird when they drafted Dillon Gabriel in the 3rd round. I don’t see the value of drafting two different QBs in the same draft.
Have both compete? Then what do you do with the other one, try to trade? Because a second rookie QB has no value for a team. They’re not going to get much trade value out of a QB that doesn’t make the cut. Seems like a waste even in the 5th round.
According to ESPN, this is the first time since 1976 that Cleveland has drafted two QBs in the same draft.
Interesting, to say the least.
ETA: the two quarterbacks drafted in 1976 by the Browns were Gene Swick and Craig Nagel. Neither ever played a down in the NFL, according to Pro-Football Reference.
