Activist Mary Morello has died at 102. She was also
Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello’s mom and often appeared with him on his Sirius XM radio shows.
Cry me a river. I picked the wrong EMT-- I have Kevin Tighe, instead of Randolph Mantooth. Who’d’ve thought the young one would go first?
I listened to her on that show. She seemed pretty cool.
She definitely gave off “Cool Mom” vibes, but she was sounding pretty frail for a while.
Political cartoonist Pat Oliphant has died at 90.
Despite their depiction in the show, Tighe only had 11 months on Mantooth. (Cf. Sean Connery and Harrison Ford who despite playing father and son were only 12 years apart).

My partner met her in the early aughts while in college at a protest in Philadelphia to free Mumia Abu-Jamal. When she approached Morello and said how much of a fan she was, Morello smiled and said “Oh, sweetie, my son’s not here.” My partner responded that she was a fan of Mary having been raised in activism by people who had been mentored by Mary. Mary gave my partner a big hug for that.
(Also, my partner was a fan of her son in his own right.)
I didn’t see this in a search, but former child actor Blake Garrett (How to Eat Fried Worms) died in February at the age of 33. According to authorities, he died of acute fentanyl toxicity. He’d been living in a sober living house in Tulsa.
So he hadn’t been sober. And he isn’t living.
Is there any proof that this place is actually a house?
Actor Hal Williams, perhaps best known as Marla Gibbs’ husband Lester Jenkins on 227, has died at 91.
Williams was also known for his 22 appearances on Sanford & Son, where he played Officer “Smitty” Smith.
I remember him as the drill sergeant in Private Benjamin.
He was pretty memorable as Big Dick Blaque in Hardcore.
Brenda Fricker, the Irish actress who played Daniel Day-Lewis’s mother in My Left Foot (and won an Oscar for her performance), played the Pigeon Lady in Home Alone 2, and portrayed Mike Myers’s mother in So I Married An Axe Murderer, has died at 81.
And wife.
(It was a dual role, OK! Not for Fricker - for Myers.)
Former MLB second baseman Ron Hunt, who still holds the all-time record for being hit by pitcher, has died with 15 at-bats remaining.
Actually, he’s 6th all-time, but holds the record for hit by pitch in a season.
