The movie Once was a really cute musical film from about 15 years ago.
Sadly, the male lead actor and also songwriter died in a motorcycle accident today.
Oh wow. What a bummer. I love that movie. He also played the guitar player in The Commitments, another favorite.
Glen Hansard was a great musician and singer. He deserves to at least have his name mentioned.

He left behind a 4-yo. son. I’d venture to say parents of small children should have no business riding motorcycles.
I saw Glen Hansard live about ten years ago when he was the supporting act for Eddie Vedder, and he made such an impression that I sought out Once to see more of his work. He was very good.
Or driving cars, or riding in planes, or eating fatty foods. It;s usually a car driver who hurts a motorcyclist. Or a truck driver who takes his eyes off the road to put in a CD.

Riding motorcycles is much more dangerous than driving, flying, or eating poorly. And in this regard it doesn’t matter any who was to blame when a motorcyclist gets killed or maimed. They still did, and hadn’t (then and there) if they hadn’t ridden a motorcycle.
I only know a few motorcyclists. One of them was killed at 30 when a truck driving in front of them dropped some grain on the road. Another survived a collision with a reindeer only because of his extra high quality body armor, but still suffered long and hard, missing work and life. The third was lame for a year after falling down on his motorcycle, details not clear to me. The fourth motorcyclist I know in total hasn’t had an accident.
There’s a motorcyclist saying that there are two kinds of motorcyclists, those that have gone down (crashed), and those that will go down.
I’ve been extremely fortunate. Over 200,000 motorcycling miles, and no accidents.

Today I leave for a 5,000 mile trip on a motorcycle, with my wife on the back seat. San Francisco to Montana to Colorado to North and South Dakota, and Wyoming (Devils Tower) then back.

In 2014 my Dad, at the age of 85, was killed by an inattentive truck driver. At least he went out healthy and happy, doing what he loved to do.

I have several of his recordings and they are all excellent performances.

One of the world’s most accomplished mountain climbers has perished in an avalanche in Pakistan. Nirmal Purja made history in 2019 by climbing all 14 mountains that are taller than 8,000 meters in just over six months. He was one of 10 climbers who died while attempting to climb Broad Peak, the world’s 12th-highest mountain.
