British actor and naturalist Bill Oddie has died, aged 85. He was a member of a troupe of comedians known as The Goodies, a classically silly show, a favourite of mine as a child, that originated from the same pool of talents as Monty Python. Bill’s character in the show was that of a righteous radical (as opposed to Tim Brooke Taylor’s nobby royalist, and Graham Garden’s academic nerd) but really they were just three oddballs having a slapstick series of adventures. He was also a talented musician and songwriter.
Not Bill Oddie!
I have such fond memories of watching The Goodies with my dad as a wee tot. Discovering Oddie was my dad’s fifth cousin through my genealogical studies was a fun piece of trivia.
RIP
Graeme Garden. Darn it.
Thanks (and HAIL!) eschereal for running things. Check GIGObuster, who should be at 278 pts (Valerie Perrine is a unique pick for 18 points)
I’m starting to make my move. All part of my strategy.
It is a shame about Bill Oddie. He was on my list for the last three years and did not make the team this year. Such a shame!
Gunther von Hagens is finally ready to be plastinated:
If I’d had him I would now insist that my 19 points be laminated for better keep, but alas! I don’t have him on my list.
My What Now?
Never become involved with a tennis player, love means nothing to them.
Charles Gaines, writer and inventor who helped propel Arnold Schwarzenegger to stardom and was a co-creator of paintball.
Also…
My score sure does look wrong! I’m used to being in the top 10 at least, with a score solidly in three figures by now. Yet here I am, tied for 38th with 52 points! How wrong is that, I ask you?
But like you say, we all make mistakes. One of mine was moving Princess Bajrakitiyabha to an alternate this year, after having had her on my regular list for years. If I hadn’t done that, I’d at least be over the 100 mark. Oopsie!
Yeah, I’m not used to looking down on you. I’m tied for 15th with over 100 points. Weird year.
Please stop humblebragging about how many points you have. Some of us remain on zilch.
Me too. My list had only one thing in common, they are doctors and sportsplayers and an actress and other things. But they all come from Kansas, and several were from my own city of Topeka.
I am proud to have zero points. My list includes people living in war zones, people with progressive incurable illnesses, people whose lives have been on course to crash and burn and people who are just plain all. I feel that I’ve given them all another year of precious life.
My big regret is not trusting Scott Adams when he said he was dying. I could be in 12th place.
