I wish they’d just build in ad breaks every 5 picks or something and stop the clock. Nothing worse that being on the clock and them going to commercial during your pick.
Thieneman is the pick. I’m okay with the pick, but feels like we left some meat on the bone. Wish we had been the team trading back with the Texans there…for a minute I thought we were.
Texans with the biggest WTF moment to me so far. Trading up 2 spots to 26 to grab a guy who has a 3rd round grade, is an OG, all the while there were at least two higher rated prospects at the same position.
It’s just so much hubris. Not only do you have to be convinced you are so much smarter than everyone else and draft the dude at 28 when his consensus rank is in the 50s. You also have to double down on the belief by throwing more draft capital at it.
Of course, I’ve never been a fan of Nick Caserio, so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.
Kipers analysis of the Cards taking Love at 3 includes these gems:
" The Cardinals didn’t really have an identity on that side of the ball; that unit was pretty bland."
“This 20-year-old is going to energize the fan base.”
No “identity”? “Energize the fan base”??
You know what "energizes a fan base? Fucking winning. You know what gives a team an “identity”? Consistently misusing draft assets, especially when you have a ton of other needs to fill.
But hey, at least the fan base is “energized”! And one rookie RB has single handedly given an entire offense “identity”.
The word from the Patriots is that they were very interested in him and had initially invited him to Foxborough, but then cancelled it because they didn’t think we would last to the end of the 1st. When he fell to within their reach, they moved up to grab him. I don’t hate it, except the fact that the trade was with the Bills.
They sent their 4th rounder to move up. Hopefully they can package some of their many 6th round picks to move back into the 4th, or higher in the 5th.
Unrelatedly, with the Eagles selecting a WR in the first round, there is a resurgence of speculation here that the Patriots will trade for WR AJ Brown (after June 1, for cap reasons).
The 49ers traded back twice, and like you I’m liking the haul. They turned #27 and #138 into #s 33, 90, and 179. I see no difference between #27 and #33 in this draft, so turning a 4th into a 3rd and 5th for basically free is a good move.
I don’t think it’s speculation at this point. I think it’s a done deal.
The general consensus on the Bears picking Dillon Thieneman is overwhelmingly positive. More often than not the Bears are getting A grades for the move. I think grades are often way to heavily colored by perceived need, which is inherently flawed, but in this case the Bears married value and need. Seems like Thieneman was generally considered a 15rh-20th pick and he slid to us at 25. I think it’s helping that everyone projected Thieneman to the Vikings and us grabbing him 10 picks later looks like an intra-divisional pwn.
I was initially disappointed we didn’t trade back and gather picks, but in retrospect I think Thieneman was a mild steal and 3-5 picks later we’d have been looking at a different tier of player.
I watched a lot of tape last night and today and I’m excited about the pick. This is of course unsurprising, we are nothing but easily manipulated animals, but the kid looks like he teleports out there some times. He’s fast and physical, he has good recognition and improvises to good effect. He’s generally been healthy and his numbers are incredibly consistent. Between Thieneman, Bryant and Bush we’ve completely remade the middle of the defense and we should be a lot tougher to throw on. We look like a team with a plan.
The Bears have 3 picks today and I’m really hoping we look to the offense. There’s definitely a couple DEs that would be awesome to grab if they fall to us, but barring that I want a OL and WR in Round 2. The OT class was depleted on day one, so it might be tough, but I don’t want to let the offense atrophy and we need depth on the inside too. There are some interesting pass catchers still on the board, I hope we don’t get too squirrelly and start trading up.
I don’t. There are a lot of signs pointing in that direction, but it really depends on how much the Eagles want to hold out for in draft capital. Do you believe there is some kind of handshake deal already in place?
Yes I do. They are just waiting until June 1 to make it official. Mildly surprised that the terms remain secret, but I suspect that’s because there are active players in the deal and they don’t want leaks creating drama.
