24 Hours of Labor- A Labor Day MMP

I’m off, half of you are RDOS. Who’s working today? I avoid shopping on holidays, because I don’t want to encourage Corporate to be open more.

Hijack away!

Polo! First! I’ll be working on my novel. It’s unpaid labor.

You must be the Right Coast. It’s only 21:00 here.

My friend and I were up your way and stopped in Birch Bay. What happened to the candy store?!

AFAIK, The C Shop is still going. Haven’t been in years, since I don’t eat candy. They might be closing after this weekend, but I don’t know.

We went to the Episcopal church this morning. Nice people, but I think we were the youngest ones there. My upbringing was secular, so my idea of church is shaped by British dramas and series from the 1940s - 1970s. Mrs. L.A.’s upbringing was Baptist/Evangelical. As I’ve mentioned before, she thinks she has reached a limit with the Christian Fellowship we’ve been attending for the last year or so. Unknown to me, she talked to the pastor about it on Thursday. The thing is, she says, ‘Nobody tells me anything.’ There was announcement of a ‘men’s meeting’ a few weeks ago. Apparently this is a monthly thing. (I don’t think a segregated meeting is right.) One of the people who preaches occasionally knows the pastor in Seattle where there was a shooting. We’re thinking there are MAGA members of the Fellowship.

Anyway… Since I had a secular upbringing, I found the Episcopal church to be in line with what I imagined church should be. The (female) priest was not as funny or engaging as our pastor; but being who I am, I liked the structure and order. As I said, nice people. We went to Bay Breeze for lunch, and we each had a drink (Hemingway daiquiri for her, Rob Roy for me). I caught some conversation from another table, and it seemed Liberal. When we left, the people at the other table recognised us. Turned out to be the deacon from the Episcopal church. He recognised us in the parking area. Mrs. L.A. said we can go back next week. She’s not of the ‘organised’ Christian persuasion, but she’s happy that I’m going to church.

I wish I was working.
My labor was much shorter than 24 hours.

I’m working today, but that’s okay. Here I get five days in a row off in May for International Labor Day as it’s called.

I literally just got off work, so … yanno …

ETA the two teenagers on our crew are getting so uppity, S.M. thanked me for, basically, putting up with their shit, as I was clocking out & heading home. She’d never say it that way (yes, she would) but it was an obvious, ah, present thought tonight.

Man, am I glad for a Blessed Day Off. Also, holy bejeebus I need to clear out the trash & roll the big bin out.

Oh, WAIT I forgot!

We got a $500+ order. Sixteen friggin’ large deluxe, with extra sausage, and then called back to add another one, cuz someone throwing a party.

So seventeen large 4-toppings.

The holiday I mentioned last week is continuing. I’m currently on the north coast of France.

I woke up here

and in a few hours I’ll be here.

Such a rough life. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 19c/65f and cloudy. Weather app says “For fuck’s sake. What’s up with the fucking overcast sky?” There’s also a 10% chance of precipitation, which means a 90% chance of staying dry.

It’s not a holiday here (we had one last Monday) so I’ll be doing the usual grocery run today. Other than that, there’s no shopping in my future until the weekend’s local errands.

You’re so good to us, taking one for the team! Looks like you’re having a good time though, and visiting some beautiful places.

It’s a normal irk day for me, I have to take ‘im indoors to the station in about 40 minutes’ time. I’ve already moved my car out onto the street because the schoolies are back today and our little street is a ratrun for the school run. I’ll be doing my grocery shopping in my lunch break, and later I’ll need to gather up the recycling stuff for the biiiiig bin as it’s getting collected tomorrow.

Right now, it’s time for a cuppa!

Anyone else going to buy a Powerball ticket today?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 82 and sunny. JDD and Partner are comin’ over around eleven for some quality cee-mint pond time. That will be fun. We will nosh on boiled peanuts and have beerverages. Then we will feast upon ribs, baked beans, N.O.T. sallit, garlic bread and watermelon. Sounds like a good Labor Day plan to me!

FlyBoy glad you enjoyed the service. Liturgical worship feels right to me.

CupCakes is powerball up to a gazillion dollahs again? Should I make the half mile run down to the sto’?

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall make up the baked beans and get the ribs in the slow cooker to warmup.

Happy Moanday Y’all! Happy Labor/Labour Day to all the Canadian and ‘Murrkin Mumpers!

I am. $1.1 bil? Now that’s walkin’ around money!

Good morning.

It’s only 3:30 a.m., but I couldn’t sleep anymore.

It’s 61°F, dark and cloudy. It’ll be overcast in the morning, with partial afternoon clearing and a daytime high of 78°F.

I was actually thinking about venturing out and purchasing a Powerball ticket myself. I’m not sure I’ll actually get to it, but we’ll see.

Shoe, that is one heck of an order!

If I were still working, today would be a holiday for me. In fact, I had submitted leave requests for the year back in February and would have had both this last Friday and today off, making it a four-day weekend.

School starts here on Wednesday, so traffic is expected to become worse. Fortunately, I don’t have to worry about that, unless I’m out and about during school arrival or departure times. I tend to avoid the residential roads so as not to get stuck behind a bus, because, God forbid, these kids walk more than one block.

I know times are different, but Jeebus, I walked to school all the way through Junior High. My elementary school on the base was just under a mile from my house, and I could walk all the way via the sidewalks, or I could take the “shortcut” through the woods and pond. That didn’t actualy shorten the walk, but I liked the woods. I went there from first through half of third grade, and I could count on one hand the number of times I got a ride. When I moved to Tacoma, my elementary and junior high schools were both over a mile from my house, and I had to walk. I was EIGHT houses from the bus line, but was not allowed to ride it. So, I walked. Imagine a first grader walking that distance nowadays. That wouldn’t happen around these parts because there is far too much traffic on the main roads, and times are just different.

Oh my goodness! I haven’t grabbed a cup of coffee! I need coffee, stat!

You all take care.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall sloth. Spot is engrossed in watching the little vermin around the bird feeder.

2 hour drive to the coast, but Eastern Standard Time.

That’s a lot of dough!

Yes. Stiff upper lip, carry on and all that.

FCD wants to finish the plumbing in the aft head, so I’ll be working. Handing him tools at the very least. I also need to empty the dishwasher. Does any of that count?

Very few kids walk around here because of lack of sidewalks. Plus most of the schools seem to be planted in the middle of nowhere. The middle school and high school closest to us are, literally, sitting by themselves away from any neighborhoods. Typical of rural areas? The two other high schools are within walking distance of some housing, but not much, considering the amount of the county they serve. The boonies is not a pedestrian-friendly area.

Even the last place we lived in FL, where Daughter just barely missed the bus limit, she still had to walk along the shoulder of the road much of the way. She rode her bike till someone stole it (her fault for not locking it.) Not like where I grew up where it was less than a quarter of a mile in a quiet subdivision with lots of sidewalks and crossing guards.

I’m so glad I put the comforter on the bed - it was a cozy sleep, tho I did wake twice for no apparent reason. At least I feel rested. FCD is still abed, but once he’s up, we’ll probably rush down to Solomons because heaven forbid we leave the house later than 9… even tho we have all-freekin’-day. For a RDOS, he’s still too obsessed with the clock, methinks. Anyway, that’s all that’s on today’s agenda so far.

We’ve decided we’re taking down the clothesline deck. Too much rot and, frankly, I’m less inclined to hang clothes out these days. So it’ll become a garden - I’m thinking some crape myrtles, maybe a couple of butterfly bushes, and an expanded veggie patch. Once the boat work is done, the chain saw comes out. We have to rebuild the ramp to the shed, but that’s easy. In fact, I may just look at buying a ramp - it’s just 4”x8’.

But that’s for another day.

Happy Labor Day and/or Happy Moanday!!

I’m finishing up on my first full-length screenplay today. I’ve been working on it for over three years now. I keep thinking it’s neatly done, but after not working on it for a while I will open it up and find that needs more work. I doubt it will ever be truly finished, so I plan to spend a few hours today “tightening it up”. And there’s some weeding in the backyard that needs to happen today too. Sigh.

Mornin’ all - Welcome to the shiny new week and month. It’s about 0815 as I start a brief drivel.

I’ve been up and caffinatin’ a couple hours now. Predawn Jupiter & Venus were lovely and today is bright with few clouds. NWS sez 79/26 on the way to 91/33. The ocean is calm and the beaches are as-yet almost deserted. I predict a nice busy day there for hordes of beachgoers. I should go as soon as I’m done driveling; beat the crowd and get my couple hours in.

Had a phone call last might w GF, the first since she left 10 days ago; she’s having fun on her cruise as long as she’s not with her irritating travel companions. And she’s real lonesome for me. Which I take as a positive sign, since I’m real lonesome for her too..

My last few, and next few, days were, are, and shall be, RDOS. The edge is off our overnight warmth; the glory days of summer are on the wane.

I’ve been following along in the MMP but have little news of my own to add. Congrats and condolences as appropriate to all.

What does RDO mean in this context?

I’m working/not working today: classes start on Tuesday, so I’m putting finishing touches on the syllabus (OCD here means exactly what you think it means), practicing the song we’ll sing in the class, and tightening the first 2 lectures. In a few weeks, we’ll be talking about the history of Labor/Labour Day, May Day, and the fight for the 8-hour day. So I say working/not working, because I’m not punching in or showing up today, but I’m not not doing stuff for work.
