24: Season 8: Episodes 15-16 (6:00am - 8:00am)

So Cole is in Slouchy’s dog house and has to run the mission from the time out corner. After all, you wouldn’t want an experienced person entering a firefight. I love TV immunity deals, but wasn’t Dana’s contingent on getting Hassan out alive?

Jack went down pretty easily to Hassan. He’s getting old.

I just want to see Dana die a horrible death. She’s so annoying.

Should we tell him?

I’m not sure we would have enough Kleenex.

In other words, the show is getting old? Yeah. Then again, we now have 8 hours to make up an entire new plot ?

But, Taylor did take a pause ~~ “The immunity is filled out to a Dana Walsh, but we don’t know here real name.” “We are assured it will still hold” “Darn, I thought we had an out.”

Anyone else find the “Tick Tock Mr.Bauer, you are running out of time” line to be incredibly, INCREDIBLY out of place?

I mean, Dana can break the fourth wall? She might beat Bauer after all.

Let the suspense grow. Don’t be cruel. Flip side: Hound Dog.

I seem to be one of few who really enjoyed this episode. For one thing, I think they did a good job of leaving it a bit unclear whether the general and the chief of staff were actually right. After all, they DID save Manhattan. They clearly continue to believe they were right, and the show doesn’t go out of its way to dispute that.

I also enjoyed seeing Dana get taken down, and Chloe was entertaining as always.

Where to next? Well, Dana’s immunity was contingent on Hassan surviving (note he got the silent countdown), so presumably she’ll need to offer something else up…

I didn’t notice the silent countdown, but he sure didn’t deserve one. He was a plot device for 2/3rds of a season.

So next week they’re sending Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton to negotiate a peace in Hassan’s stead?OK, so it is really disgraced ex-President Logan, who will weasel his way around while Jack and Renee use 15 minutes of the 24 hours for extra-curricular activities. I mean, it isn’t like she stabbed him 12 hours ago or anything.

Serious question (sort of): Have any of you seen an entire season of 24 in 24 hours, back to back?

If so, how many errors in time do you see?

As Meeko points out above, the car switch seems like a cheat. Bad-guy-driver sure seemed to be improvising when he did that U-turn and sped into the parking garage. I’d have to watch again to see if the director was being honest with us in that moment.

I’d also need to review to see if there was enough time to tape the ‘list of crimes’ tape and get it online an leave the building. How much time elapsed between the time we last saw the Xstan president and his captors ‘live’ and the internet feed of the tape began?

How come the main bad guy’s henchmen stayed behind in the room? It’s not like the tape playback needed someone to be there.

And think about it, something I suppose we are not supposed to do with this show, Chloe determined what floor and room the President of the IRK was by noticing the sunlight on his cheek, noting the time, and calculating where he must be to get just that angle of sunlight at that time. But in fact she was not seeing him in real time; unknown to her she was looking at a pre-recorded tape. That should have upset her calculations and she should have sent Jack to the wrong room.

When Dana warned Talin and gave him the alternate, didn’t she say she’d arrange something? Maybe it got left on the editing room floor? Not that they had time to arrange anything, but given the way they have magically moved around LA in the past, I’m sure the bad guys could have arranged an alternate plan.

Oh, I forgot to mention. Chloe looked at the tape and said the temperature was “5600 degrees Kelvin”.

That’s hotter than molten steel. I feel like they HAD to know that was BS and were just having a good time coming up with goofy science-y babble. It certainly made me laugh, not feel insulted.

The show was full of oddities last night.

When they stopped the bomb with 7 seconds left on the timer it was distracting. I started expecting a cameo from Sean Connery or Roger Moore.

When Chloe called Jack on his cell phone and complained about the connection, he walked about ten feet and said, “Can you hear me now?” Just like the Verizon guy in one of their sponsor’s commercials. (Though, 24 seems to take advertising from all the cell phone companies.)

She was referring to the color temperature. It can be used to distinguish between sunlight and artificial light. Basically, you called out one of the very few things that have ever been used remotely correctly on 24.

[Bad Boys 2]Shit just got real.[/Bad Boys 2]

And she gave him the  right after. That had to be the best part of the show.

Chloe’s facial expressions are always awesome.

What kind of car did Jack Steal? That was one badass machine.

I believe it was the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Can be yours for only $22K.

I know! That occurred to me the moment I saw what had happened. Shoot the laptop, Jack! SHOOT IT NOW.

Dana is absolutely the most annoying character this season, but I still loved it when she said “You know the drill, Jack.”

Given the (probably impossibly) tight timeframe, I don’t think it could have been off by more than a few minutes. Probably not enough to change anything significant. In any case, her analysis didn’t hinge on having tremendous precision, and just gave Jack and the team a general idea of where the terrorists were holed up. I actually loved this bit. It was refreshing to see some snappy, clever, and plausible detective work from CTU – and, of course, it’s always improved by coming from Chloe.

Anyway, overall, I liked this episode(s). I was surprised to find out that there are still eight hours left in this day; I had figured we were getting pretty close to wrap-up time. I’m also curious as to what’s going to develop to fill the rest of the day, but I think that this sudden release of tension is the right turn for the season’s pacing. It’ll be interesting to see how things ramp back up again.

Right. Remember, they used audio sensors to track down the terrorists’ precise position.
