24: Season 8: Episodes 15-16 (6:00am - 8:00am)

I’m not sure exactly how much time elapsed between the last time we saw the terrorists “live” until the internet broadcast started, but I got the impression the feed was delayed only by a minute or two. And that Jack took down all the bad guys, just seconds too late. I didn’t think the head terrorist (goatee guy) left the building; he’s right there dead in his ski mask.

Of course, there’s no chance at all I could be wrong. :stuck_out_tongue: I think I’ll watch that scene again tonight and see if I can clarify.

I know making calls to practicality and reasonableness are probably useless with this show, but what possible reason could the terrorists have to go to the trouble of recording just to built in a delay of only a couple of minutes? An hour, even a half hour, okay, that would give them time to get away from the scene – possibly useful.

But a few minutes? What, they were worried about bleeping out bad words???

I wondered about this, too. Maybe they were concerned about viewer comments that the site would get and wanted somebody there to respond to the snarky ones. Image and all that. Live chat?

I dunno, maybe they wanted to be sure President Taylor had a chance to grab some popcorn and Raisinets in time to get to her screen before the show started.

It just seemed to me that there only was a minute or two between the Terrorist Guy saying “Let’s get started” or whatever, and when the President began watching.
Though there may also have been a commercial break that I fast-forwarded through.

Now I really want to take another look and figure this out.

Until then I’m sticking to thinking that Jack was only a few seconds late, and that the main Bad Guy is dead and they’ll introduce the New-And-Even-Bigger-Threat next week.

Samir escaped, though, didn’t he?

If by Samir you mean the main bad guy, then yes, I believe he did. I can’t imagine him living for another 8 episodes (although, when you think of it as 8 hours it seems like a reasonable amount of time to live).

I guess I missed that. My read was: Jack bursts in and makes all the terrorists dead, even Samir, but it’s too late already. Did somebody say he escaped, or were you just paying closer attention than I to who was in the room?

Overall, really enjoyed these two episodes.

Did anyone else think that when Cole caught up with ‘Dana’ in the car park, it was reminiscent of Jack catching up with Nina in the car park and getting talked down by his boss back in season one? Must have been deliberate, right?

I’m looking forward to when these scenes are written into the show.

Either that or lazy writing. Hard to tell.

No, I just didn’t recognize any of the guys that got shot, and got the impression that Samir had left them behind to run the video. He could’ve been there, though - I guess we’ll find out next week.

Samir is dead.

I went back and checked; in the earlier scene, Samir is in the room with two other men besides Hassan: a guy with glasses who gives Hassan the drugs, and a guy with a stubbly beard who convinces him that Hassan will never break. Before they start the broadcast, Samir puts on a ski mask.

Later, when Jack comes in, he shoots Glasses Guy and Stubbly Guy, then *a man in a ski mask *returns fire before Jack plugs him as well. If that wasn’t Samir, who was it?

As for the timing, well…
We last see Hassan alive exactly 1 minute and 15 seconds before the image of the web feed appears on the President’s screen. Jack enters the room containing an already-dead Hassan exactly 1 minute and 22 seconds before Samir kills Hassan on the recording. :dubious:

I guess you could wank that away by claiming that the feed was both delayed and played back imperceptibly slower than life. For who-knows-what reason. But I’d say that’s overthinking it and it’s just sloppy editing.

So I’m finally getting the opportunity to watch the second hour this afternoon. Commenting as I go, then I’ll go back and read all of the thread

Madame Prez: “I can’t imagine how hard this is for both of you.”

Um… actually, you can. Your own husband was kidnapped by terrorists last season, remember?

“APPREHEND ON SITE”

So that that correct, or should it have been “APPREHEND ON SIGHT”?

Cole: “Who are you, you lying bitch!!!” Hahaha – nice.

So I wonder if Cole will now come clean to Hastings about where they were earlier – the Kevin incident.

Dana: “You want answers? Get Bauer?” (“He’ll torture me nice and good!”)

Good call by Hastings. “I need people I can trust. Start by getting down everything you know – then we’ll talk”.

Jack: You want to talk to me. Why?
Dana: “Because you’re the only one here who doesn’t have his head up his ass.”

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Girl, if you don’t start telling Jack the info he wants, he’ll be shoving YOUR head up your ass.

Jack taking Dana by the throat, up against the wall.
Hastings doesn’t approve. Renee quietly cheering him on.

Enough of this immunity-deal crap – I really want to see Jack introduce Dana to some Bauer-style questioning. Show her that he holds the trump cards, not her.

Chloe: “She played us, get over it!” Nice…
Arlo doesn’t know how close he came to not being around any more.

Hassan on the video feed looks like a cardboard cut-out, not moving.

Good catch, Renee! Taking out little miss wig.

So they pre-recorded it. He was already dead when the broadcast started, or shortly after. So was Samir among the group that Jack just wasted?

So is Jack just going to leave the video feed running? At least don’t let the world see it happen!

So much for "Dana"s immunity deal. Cole, go kick her ass.

Yeah, that scene was definitely setting something up for the remaining episodes. And I’m quite sure that Taylor’s first instinct was right – the Russian dude was hoping the peace talks would fall apart.

When Dana called to warn Tarin, she told him to contact Samir and get him to decide from there – she’s going to start her escape. So it seems that Tarin called Samir to set up a quick Plan B. Now, HOW a switch car got to the parking deck so fast, in morning Manhattan traffic…

As for the switch itself – that had to happen before Tarin poked his vehicle out the back entrance and found himself headed off at the pass by Jack. (And during the chase through the parking deck, there were a couple of shots of Tarin’s vehicle where it was clear there was nobody in the passenger seat.

Yeah, they did a good job with leaving that ambiguous situational-ethics question. In fact, Weiss’ position struck me as the sort of thing that Jack would have done (and perhaps DID, more than on one occasion) back in the earlier seasons…

Yeah, isn’t that Jack’s MO anyway? Do whatever it takes to save as many people as possible, even if it is against orders?

Yeah, but see, the important difference is that JACK SUCCEEDED.

Dana’s no Nina. Hell, she’s barely even the “Mandible”

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:frowning:

I thought last the 6-8 episodes were pretty good. But the “tick, tock, Mr. Bauer…” line threw me off too. Is that line originally from another movie? Seems to me more like something I would have seen in Batman.

As far as Jack getting soft on the interrogation, maybe he needs to take a few lessons. The move starting at 1:00 is incredible.
