I’m not completely surprised. We’ve had drive by shootings off 12th Street for the past week. Even had a shooting on the Interstate a mile away.
One of the drive by shootings off 12th Street hit a kid in his grandmother’s yard. Three days ago.
Most likely gang related. These guys are going at it. That high speed shooting on the Interstate showed how intent they are to get their targets.

That cumulated last night with a mass shooting at a The Power Ultra Lounge. They say it’s the largest shooting since the Pulse nightclub attack.

I knew it was bad news when I saw our weekday anchor working on a Saturday. That never happens.
28 injuries and no fatalities. Our hospital’s ER’s do good work.
Special agents with the ATF Little Rock field office are assisting local police with the investigation.
Witnesses tell Channel 7 shots were fired in the crowd and then shots were returned from the stage.
Some small towns have a sign at the city limits that says something like “XX days without a traffic accident” or some such.
How many days can the United States go without a mass shooting?

How do you have 28 injuries and no fatalities in a random shooting? Were those 28 injuries from gunshots or other things? If the were gunshot injuries they gunmen must have gone around and individually shot each person in the foot.
It’s still a developing story. I plan to watch the local news at 10 for updates.
There were 2 off duty officers working security in the parking lot. The shooting occurred inside, apparently between 2 rival groups. A rapper was onstage. It sounds like maybe some of his security or maybe his crew? returned fire. Just a WAG based on reports.

At least the club is finished. ABC revoked their beverage license and the city is shutting them down after multiple violations since 2012.
Little Rock Police Chief Kenton Buckner said a dispute ensued in the audience during a performance by rapper Finese 2Tymes. He said multiple shots were fired and they believe multiple people are responsible.
Buckner said two off-duty Little Rock officers were outside in the venue’s parking lot until 2 a.m.
“Shortly before they left before their 2 a.m. exit time, some members with the headliner group for the entertainment attempted to enter the venue, one of which was openly carrying a weapon,” Buckner said. “Our officers engaged that individual, attempted to stop that individual, but it appears that some of the individuals went to an alternate entry into this location and actually gained access into the venue.”
Mayor Stodola also said the manager of the property where Power Ultra Lounge operates says he will be issuing an eviction notice to the operators of the business.
Alcoholic Beverage Control has suspended the mixed drink permit for Power Ultra Lounge, effective Saturday.

I recall an episode of Wild West Tech that told of a shootout in a saloon. Both combatants emptied their guns at each other from across a table. There were no injuries.
At least The Times was aware there was a shooting. The Howling Yam didn’t notice. Didn’t notice the hospital shooting, either.

There is concern this may escalate. A week of drive by shootings lead to this incident. Hopefully the cops can keep it from continuing.
Mayor Stodola served three terms as Little Rock prosecuting attorney in the 90’s. Gangs were even worse then.
He knows how to work with law enforcement and get this under control.

If there were no casualties, then I can understand why it’s not being taken as seriously. These serial killers keep raising the bar, and we have compassion fatigue. Plus it’s gang related, so people probably assume there were no innocent people involved.
Still, this actually hits me a bit more, since it is closer to home. Though one in Springfield (less than an hour away if you ignore the speed limit as most people do) would hit a lot more.
I guess the reports of return fire coming from the stage are accurate. Finese2Tymes was performing when the shooting started.

Ricky Hampton, also know as Finese2Tymes, along with another suspect was arrested outside of Side Effects Club in Birmingham, Alabama, FOX 6 News reported.
U.S. Marshals, along with the ATF and FBI apprehended Hampton and the other male, according to Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Cliff LaBarge. Both are currently being held at the Jefferson County jail.
Where they’re from, it wouldn’t have been a mistake.

The police corrected the arrest story. Forrest City is in northern Arkansas. A 45 minute drive from Memphis. The rapper is based in Memphis.
