2nd (?) Annual-ish SDMB Coffee Mug Exchange

Patience, grasshopper.

Nooooooooooooooooo

I got a package from Silvorange! Yea!!!

A fine coffee mug, big one, touting the Kentucky Derby. When I was a wee Baker I loved horses and watched the Triple Crown races. I can still tell you, from memory, that the winner of the 1963 Derby was named Northern Dancer, and his time was two minutes flat.

I love the mug!

Then there was(emphasis on the WAS) a tasty chocolate bar.

I haven’t tried the smoked sugar yet, I don’t know what it would be best in.

There are also two skeins of yarn. Alpaca yarn. It’s the softest yarn ever. One skein is a tweed gray/brown, the other is a pale tan, or dark cream color. It’s going to take some though to decide what to crochet out of them.

One question, what is the ivory tool for? It’s not a crochet hook. It looks like some kind of tool, but Im not sure what for.

Thank you, thank you!!! Silvorange is the best!

I’m glad you liked everything!

It actually is a crochet hook. Kind of skinny and pointy, isn’t it? The yarn shop lady said she had used one before and it worked well, but I admit I got it mostly because I liked the handle and thought it would look nice tucked in with everything. It’s supposed to be the right size for the yarn.

BTW, did you see the alpaca bios on the yarn labels?

I thought that was the cutest part!:stuck_out_tongue:

I’m thinking socks maybe? I’ve never crocheted socks, so I need to go look for some good patterns.

I’m so glad you liked my package! It was fun to think of things to send. I hope you enjoy the coffee.

Mine’s in the mail! Next stop, Montreal…

I muast confess my cup will not go out until tomorrow, Wednesday. But it is bought, I swear! It’s handmade, and I have on from the same artist.

Yay! Mine arrived today - a heat sensitive mug from ThinkGeek with a world map that changes from night to day. Thanks MmeRose!

(I will have to make sure my wife knows that it is NOT dishwasher safe!)

Glad you like it! Bridgehead is a local coffee roaster and my favourite!

Behold, a bounty has arrived!

From the very kind and very thoughtful swampspruce, a cornucopia of Canadian things:

  • Some really excellent buffalo jerky. Too much of the jerky out there tastes of nothing but salt and pepper, or worse yet, teriyaki sauce. This tastes like meat.
  • A bag of Tim Horton’s coffee! I’ve never been farther into Canada than Niagara Falls, so this will be a first for me. The wife and I will try it in the morning.
  • A box of Smarties candy, which definitely does not match up to its Yankee namesake. I will crack these open soon.
  • Best of all, the mug itself, which is LARGE. Large is good. It looks like a good 16 oz. at a glance, which is fantastic; I find that my own coffee mugs generally don’t hold as much as I want.

All of this came accompanied by a lovely explanatory note and a double helping of Cold Lake, AB newspaper. Thank you very much, swampspruce!

I’m glad everything arrived in good shape and I hope you enjoy the treats. I’m also a fan of large-ish mugs, and we used to have a pottery business here that made great mugs and other goods but they moved away much to my chagrin.
I was a little worried the Customs guys would bogart the jerky for themselves… :D.

feppytweed, a huge thanks to you for taking the time to organize this!!!

Das Glaserlenspiel, I ended up making about half the bag this weekend, the wife and I loved it!!

I think you can order coffee online from them!

I shipped my package Priority Mail last night. Should arrive on Thursday!

And there is a package waiting for me at the post office!

This Tim Horton’s coffee is pretty damned good! :stuck_out_tongue:

We take our coffee very seriously at my house - we grind the beans fresh to order every single time, and have <thinking> no fewer than five different devices for preparing coffee on hand. For pre-ground coffee - bearing the name of a chain restaurant, no less - to be so excellent was quite the pleasant surprise. Is the coffee they serve at Tim Horton’s really this good? I ask because there’s no way in hell I would buy a bag of coffee that said Denny’s or IHOP on the bag.

I did send you the dark roast which IMHO is better than the regular, but that is pretty close to what you’d get in the store although your brewing set up is no doubt better than the Bunn machines in the shops. There’s a reason a lot of Canucks obsess over the stuff. I would have (should have) sent beans, I usually have either Kicking Horse or Ethical Bean coffees in the house but I wanted to send something “typical” you might not have tried before.

Woohoo! I went to the grocery store this afternoon and returned to find a much-larger-than-mug-sized box from Silenus. I took it inside to show to Mr. Silvorange, and we speculated as to whether it would be full of surprises or a one very tiny, well-protected mug.

Well! The enclosed note promised “nerdy stuff,” and he was not kidding! The big prize was a large molded Carnage mug. So awesome. I might put some flowers in it when the foster care worker comes to inspect the house. It will be a nice touch  . And…another mug! A travel mug from the Venetian/The Palazzo in Las Vegas with a tiny flashlight hidden inside. And let’s not forget the coffee and tea. I’m going to have the Kahlua for breakfast.

More geekery: a Tyvek Simpsons wallet, pixelated sunglasses, a Terminator brain chip necklace, and a couple of other things that are in the other room and I can’t remember. Oh, I can’t forget the Captain America air freshener. My favorite of all, a game called Superfight, which Mr. Silvorange and I have been enjoying very much. It is very silly, and particularly well suited for us.

Well done, Silenus! Thank you so much! This exchange has been a lot of fun. Thanks again to Feppytweed for putting it together.

At last! My out-going shipment is in the mail, winging it’s way to the Mid-West (some smallish city near a lake, I believe). Expected delivery is Friday. Hope my recipient enjoys the small tokens of my large esteem.

De nada. Glad you liked everything. Thanks really need to go to the missus, deedeeknowitall. She’s the one who put it all together. The Carnage mug was a gamble: I knew you would either love it or hate it. Glad to know I got lucky!
