3 Q's for Brady Bunch Fans

Comedy gold, I tell ya!

(And sorry to Andy L, I didn’t see you posted about that episode already.)

I recently read Florence Henderson’s autobio. Apparently Robert Reed was a very lonely, bitter man. He had to live “in the closet” or risk losing his career. He was an established Shakespearian actor, and considered himself too good to do physical comedy.

Henderson, the TV Brady kids, and Reed’s daughter Karen (from a short-lived marriage were the only people at his funeral. That’s just sad.

The Brady movies came out almost 20 years ago. The fact that she’s only 30 is more amazing.

First and middle names of Sam and The.

OK, noting the join dates, some explanation is in order, in case you haven’t already figured it out:

Our ol’ pal Jinx here has a long-standing reputation for making drive-by OPs of ridiculously *easy-to-search things (like “Who is on Mt. Rushmore?”) He/she makes one of these posts, then (usually) never returns to the thread to give a thank you for those of us who bite the bullet and respond.

So, those other ancillary questions were just some of us having a little fun at his/her expense, knowing that there probably wouldn’t be any response, anyway.

Back to the OP, the “b” question was pretty easily searchable. The “a” would have taken some research, and the “c” is a little complicated. I seem to recall that his “colon cancer” was not colorectal cancer as you might expect, but colon lymphoma, a rare cancer that at the time was thought to be related to his HIV diagnosis.

*Not that Jinx asks only bone-headed questions. Not at all. It’s just that he/she probably asks more of them than most posters that have stuck around for this long.

That’s why I feel old, as in my head it was only maybe 10 years ago. As we get older, time starts to compress into weird inconsistent lengths.

What insight! I assume the OP knows where Wikipedia is. The least you could have done was actually answer the questions.

I wouldn’t make that assumption if I were you; this is Jinx we’re talking about.

You obviously are not familiar with Jinx.

Yes. For example, I remember watching “The Brady Bunch” when it was first broadcast - and the premiere episode’s broadcast is closer in time to the start of the Great Depression than it is to today…

At that point, it’s not about having her own room and privacy, it’s about having the cool room.

I looked at the article, it had the character information and links to the specific actors to get the rest of the information. That’s way more work than the OP did, or has done since he posted.

Back then you took long car trips. My family, I was the youngest of six, frequently drove from OKC to California in the summer. Two days on the road. The station wagon was heaven. We did it once with five kids and a dog in a grand torino. (like Starsky and Hutch).

I’d have been fine as long as Marcia was riding on my lap.

We did as well. My parents, my brother and I, along with a cousin, his wife and their infant son, drove from Connecticut to Orlando. This was in a Volkswagen Squareback and I think my father drove pretty much through the night. I think this was in 1974. (I remember that Space Mountain was still under construction and Wikipedia says that opened in January 1975.) I was eight years old and my brother was ten. I don’t remember being uncomfortable, but mostly I was excited about seeing Disney World.

You misspelled Jan.

As I recall, in an early episode the Brady parents did indeed plan to sell the house and buy a bigger one to accomodate their new blended family. But the kids didn’t want to move, so they rigged the place to seem haunted to scare off the potential buyers. While real parents would have been totally pissed, Mike and Carol were so touched by the kids’ affection for the house that they called off the sale.

So really, they screwed themselves out of that extra bathroom.

I would assume Cousin Oliver would have been murdered by someone in the family long before they reached the point of Jan going to college.

Barry Williams appeared, as did a green-screened-in John Fogarty, in the 2004 Wiggles DVD Santa’s Rockin’. Williams sings “Wags, Stop Your Barking” along with the Wiggles.

There’s a bit of extra comedy for us Yanks when one of the other Wiggles walks on to the set and addresses lead singer Greg Page by saying, “Hi, Greg,” and both Greg and Barry respond.

Carrie Henn, who played Rebecca “Newt” Jordan (the little girl) in Aliens will be 37 this year.

Why don’t we put her in charge?

:dubious: I don’t remember Starsky & Hutch making that trip at all, with or without a dog.
