3 to 5 feet?

The average for Cololrado (front range) is actually about 12-1, meaning q foot of snow equals an inch of rain.

I lived off of Colorado and Orchard and we had 25 inches of snow in 1997. Given the past of Denver and Colorado Springs (they reportedly had 40 inches of snow the same storm) this is a wuss of a storm. Most of the storms create huge amounts over a 12 hour period like in 1997.

6:00pm I got beer, food and smokes in that October snow. 6:00 am the next day I was wondering how the hell to get my dog out to do his business, 25 inches later in that short of time it was a trip.

This may be historic but hardly top of the charts as the worst snow storm recorded in Denver was in 1913 during a December snow where 53 inches built up. I just don’t think it will happen like that this go around. If it does then I eat my words but this is mild compared to 1997 and 1981 or 1982…Holy crap that 80’s storm was horrible.

That same area has about 40 inches of snow this morning, with 4-6 more still to come. Some areas in the foothills have already reported 70 inches. This storm passed by the 97 one sometime last night, and the Christmas Eve storm of '82 was 23.6 inches. I have close to 30 inches in my yard this morning. The 1913 total came in 5 days.

The Springs missed this one, TC, but believe me Denver/Boulder has gotten hammered. The one thing that might keep this off the record books is that the official records are measured now at DIA, which is 30 miles east of the mountains, and the snow depth increases dramatically the closer to the mountains you get.

Looks like I moved out of there just in time!

Last week, my husband was there and said the weather was beautiful and I was sad and jealous that I was missing it. Now our weather here is in the 50’s, and I’m happy that I’m not in Colorado!

It has finally let up but I’m not going anywhere for a couple of days yet. You can’t even tell where I shovelled the driveway yesterday to get my car in the garage, it is totally drifted over. We are not allowed out on the streets unless it is an emergency. They did close our work today so hopefully I don’t have to use a vacation day for today. We are still going to get a little more snow but we have 40" right now. This is the most snow this area has seen in over 90 years. I’m glad I have cable so I can watch tv and use the computer.

It’s been fun. My dad and I finished shovelling off our driveway about 2pm. The drifts are chest-high on me. some pix 4 j00.
