I can’t dance to ANYTHING, but before the Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings at the theater I frequented, they showed 2 Tim Curry videos. Everyone got up in front of the screen and did a sort of light mosh.
I don’t dance.
But, to stay in the game, I’ll say Groove is in the Heart.
I don’t really recall how it got started, but among my closest friends it’s become somewhat of a tradition to dance whenever Disco Fever by Paris gets played. Not that this should be taken to imply that I can dance, just that occasionally, I do.
“Feel The Beat (Everybody Disco)” by The Ohio Players
Only one of a handful of songs to which I get my groove on.
Jump Jive an’ Wail. If this comes on at a wedding, my wife and I will be on the floor, attempting (amateurishly, based on the one ballroom course we took) to swing dance.
At my wedding reception many years ago, my favorite aunt was there, but unfortunately was suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. She was steadily declining and was at the point where she didn’t know her own children. She sat expressionless at a table until the first song of the came on:Sly and the family Stone - Dance To the Music Suddenly she jumped up, ran on the dance floor and danced the hustle, the bump and all those groovy 70 dances like it was her job. This song will forever remind me of her.
One that I can’t help dancing to is:
KC and the Sunshine Band - Get down Tonight
Another hard one to narrow down but I’ll look back to my clubbing days in the '80s and mention Expose’s Point of No Return.
The first song to leap to mind was And We Danced by the Hooters. (The Hooters were the only rock concert I ever attended.) The Hooters - And We Danced - YouTube
I considered posting an obvious song that has a choreographed dance to go along with it, like the Macarena or YMCA. But then I decided to be a little more creative and instead choose a song that I really like dancing to. So I submit Selena Gomez’s Come & Get It.
Faith Evans - Love Like This. Back on Day 2 of the challenge I complained about an example of really lazy sampling, but here’s one of sampling done well. The bass riff from Chic Cheer was lifted and put in a much better song - the high ethereal disco vocals over top of that low bass are like two great tastes going great together.
Moonlight Serenade would be my first choice, followed by Someone to Watch over Me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Stf3vpMxbnkI sing in the local gay men’s chorus. A number of years ago we did a spoof of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” with song (yes, there are words) and dance (we have a professional choreographer). I was in “Waltz of the Flowers,” which consisted of six couples dancing, while the rest of the chorus sang. The shorter guys of course wore tights and tutus. In our version, the couples ultimately started bumping into each other, and the dance devolved into a free-for-all fist fight. The audience gave us a HUGE standing ovation and demanded an encore.
Here’s a different gay men’s chorus doing something similar, with “Waltz of the Snowflakes.”
World’s worst dancer here, but this cooker could maybe get me on the dance floor one time. Gordon/Radle and the horn section just drive it.
Delaney & Bonnie - Soul Shake
Having recently attended a Don McLean concert, I have to vote for American Pie. People were literally dancing in the aisles.
“Moonglow,” the theme to the film ‘Picnic’ is one of the dreamiest and most evocative songs to slow dance to. Sigh…
I love to dance. This is on my workout playlist and it’s hard not to boogie when it comes on:
Before I had health issues, this was my favorite workout song

I used to be a professional belly dancer, there’s not too much music I can’t dance to. Except it all will start to become belly dancing.
