Anyone catch this last night? I thought it was another funny episode w/ a lot of great lines.
I loved the whole little league/Iraq war analogy. Frank being “gay for Jaime,” and Jenna dating a “freshman from NYU” who was obviously still in high school.
Some favorite quotes:
Jenna: "These things happen, Liz. I had my no sex with Asians rule but then one day you walk into Sharper Image and there’s Kwan. "
Little league kid: "“Some day I will have an office like this…to clean.”
Tracy: “Do you know that at our first practice, they asked me what the sun was?”
Liz: “You can’t be gay for one person. Unless you’re a lady and you meet Ellen.”
I must own the painting that Frank made for Jaime: “I call it 'Rainbow with Mermaid unicorn and bigfoot.”
I agree; another excellent episode. I have to again remark how much detail this show puts into what might otherwise be relatively minor sight-gags: The angle on the deposed Jefferson Davis statue, the detail on the “Fun Times Accomplished” sign, even the five-second cutaway for the “Homeless in tuxedoes” bit.
I didn’t much care for the “gay for Jamie” plotline; I thought this was pretty much played out after he first mentioned it, and it didn’t really go much beyond “Look, it’s a fat obviously-heterosexual slob hitting on a young guy.”
While my favorite line from the episode was “This is a neighborhood where orange soda is an acceptable substitute for breast milk”, I could potentially see where some folks might get offended by that. I’m curious to know what others thing of gags like this. I personally think it’s wonderful a show can get so brazen about real cultural issues; most comedies rarely rise beyond the usual safe mocking stereotypes (wifes can be shrews, men never listen, blondes are dumb, foreigners talk funny, etc.).
I liked the fact that the other writer, Lutz, tried getting everyone to make fun of Frank for being gay and everyone was basically “whatever.”
It reminded me of the time when Frank tried to tease Josh by asking him if he’d have sex with Elizabeth Taylor. He immediately answered “yes” and diffused the joke at his expense immediately.
