30 Rock 12/5 I want to go to there!

I was a little worried at the beginning of the season, but I’d give this episode a B+.
I actually created this post just so I could say “I want to go to there.” It was a little forced as a new catch phrase, but when Tina Fey says it, it works…

Lemon out!

This episode was amazing. Jack’s epiphany– ‘Boats, buds and (brews, was it?)’ High school Liz Lemon. Kenneth’s lame jokes. I was howling.

Having seen so sitcom high school reunions, I was dreading this one but 30 Rock pulled if off with style, spinning the cliche right on its head. It was very funny!

“Rich 50 is middle-class 38.”

Why was I thinking Don Geis was dead? What will this do to Kathy?

Don was in a diabetic coma since an incident at a party where Liz forgot to look after him. I doubt it will effect Kathy at all. She’ll be exactly the same, in some other place. Probably happier.

“If if it wasn’t for celebrities like us, how would people know who to vote for?”

I knew about the coma; I just thought they’d pulled the plug. Good, more of Rip Torn.

I liked Liz’s response: “Are you having a stroke?”

My favorite line, by Jack: “We all have ways of coping. I use sex and awesomeness.”

I liked this episode and was glad it did not include any guest stars. The gay guy classmate still in denial was funny. “I’ll have you know my wife and I have raised 3 beautiful dogs together.” “I’m so mad I have to go dance.”

I hope they get back to an episode that centers around the writing staff and creating their show.

“Ignore the detour sign. It’s a trap.”

It did have Janel Moloney.

“Larry, this is your son.”
“For the record, I’m not Larry Braverman.”

One of my favorite parts: “Cat anus. Cat anus. Cat anus.”

I thought it was fun. The angle on Liz - she thought she was being sarcastic in the face of being mocked as a nerd; the popular girls thought she was a bully whose words could really hurt - was interesting. I can’t remember where - I think in a profile in the New Yorker - I thought I read that this basically was what Tina Fey experienced in school. Basically, watching the show and half-remembering that article, I got the impression that Fey mined her experiences to use as the basis for the show…

Way too much thought for a silly sitcom, but then, this is the SDMB. Overall, good show.

This was the first episode I’ve seen. I liked it. I especially liked how even after Liz realized the effect her jokes had on people, she kept doing them.

I was waiting for the real Larry Braverman to show up. Guess this show doesn’t do cliches.

I was thrilled to see Donna of the West Wing again. Haven’t seen much of her on TV in awhile. And my reaction when Don Geist woke up: “Woohoo! Rip Torn is back!”

I’ve seen bits and pieces of the show before, and thought it was ok, but didn’t seek it out. Our TiVo recorded last night’s episode as a suggestion, and my wife and I watched it. We paused several times for our laughter to pass. Off to Netflix for the first two seasons!

I thought the B-story (Kenneth the Elevator Comic) was pretty lame, but it didn’t matter because the A-story was excellent (though they did at least use it as an excuse to have Jane Krakowski sing).

I thought it was funny when Tracy Jordan started slapping his stomach in the elevator, because Tracy Morgan was doing exactly that in one of the interview videos linked in the current thread about him that I had just watched earlier in the day.

It was all hysterical (like this show usually is for me). I loved the cliché getting turned on its head - a nice little insight into how Liz Lemon is in the position she’s in - she’s not nearly as nice as she puts on. I had a feeling she might have been mining her own life there.

Oh, poor Philadelphia, getting taken over by Vietnamese gangs.

Maloney had a recurring role last year on the Showtime series Brotherhood, where you could see parts of her that weren’t shown on network television.
