41% of Americans support Syrian immigration

The most likely effects in the middle east were reported by scientists in the 80’s.

New studies also point that the drought was more severe than it was reported and the mass of people leaving the countryside to the cities was yet another factor that destabilized Syria.

On both subjects, this video from Yale climate connections is more related to the moral reasons why the USA has more moral reasons on why we should help the Syrian refugees.

(scroll down for the video)

Well they’re not entirely unrelated - according to some commentators the whole Syrian thing (as well as the Arab Spring as a whole) could be attributed in part to a few particularly bad agricultural years caused by - you guessed it - climate change. Which caused economic disruptions and food price hikes, which displaced people to the cities, which led to a lot of popular grousing that piled on top of old grievances and so on.

Considering the very same situation lit the fires of the French Revolution, I’m not inclined to totally disregard the notion.

Fake ETA : or, well, what you linked to :o

I actually said “climate change”, not “global warming” but then noting nuances does not seem to be a skill you have mastered.

You came to this board expecting… something, I don’t know what … and now you’re angry to find it is considerably left of your position. Hell, Richard Nixon was probably left of your position. Sorry if you didn’t know that beforehand, but now you do.

You can either come to grips with the notion that your views are a minority here, or we will just continue to point at you and laugh.

To avoid continuing the simplistic, hyperpartisan tribalism this well was poisoned with early, 25% of Democritters in the House also took up that motto and disagreed with Obama yesterday. There’s partisan leanings but it’s not merely a red vs blue issue.

What’s the difference between a soccer fan and a communist?
NOTHING!

HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!
That’s not very “sciency” of you, Broomstick. Why don’t you try speaking “sciency” in your own words. Don’t just giggle and point. Say something material. Something besides the usual nonsense that water vapor doesn’t matter because it isn’t “forcing.”

Greenhouse gases absorb infrared radiation, preventing them from continuing beyond the earth’s atmosphere. There is no “forcing.” It is in fact an insulation. The infrared spectrum of water vapor is broader than that of carbon dioxide, and there is very much more water vapor than CO2. Moreover, anthropogenic carbon dioxide is dwarfed by naturally occurring carbon dioxide.

Beyond these and other considerations which are blithely brushed aside by warmists, the hypocrisy is truly stunning as those who preach, do not practice. This is true from the top down.

I have zero idea what you’re talking about - but then, I don’t pretend to understand meteorology to any significant degree. What is this “forcing” you are talking about? You’re staying Jedi knights stabilize our climate?

I find it amusing that you’re attempting to counter arguments I haven’t even made yet.

The Earth’s climate has changed many times over the past 4 billion years and change. Why do think it is impossible for it to change NOW?

And what does that have to do with the OP of this thread?

I knew that already, they get the same motto applied to them. AFAIK no republican did go in favor of the refugees.

LOL! OK, now you need to come over and clean up the coffee I just spit all over my desk…

I’m trying not to engage in this discussion, but I have to admit I am finding it very entertaining whenever I need a break from working…

Rioting Muslims in Europe. They hate us irrespective of how they have been welcomed and how much money they have been given. Your denial will avail you nothing.
If Muslims hate us so much, why aren’t they rioting here?

You do realize that was last June, right? French Taxi cab drivers also rioted in France in June 2015. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-7f1zVkCao

So what’s your point?

Closest I have seen in the USA are the riots that took place first to get rid of undesirables like blacks, Irish or Asians. Then we had many riots related to strikes and more recently race riots and economical protests that also turned to riots on occasion.

Generally speaking more recent ones are related to race injustice and economical injustice.
What you linked to was related to this:

The police were looking to arrest some minority youths that in their avoidance of the police they died electrocuted by some equipment located where they tried to hide, the unemployment and police harassment and brutality injustice came out in force and we had the unrest pictured.

It is in reality a lot like what we got in the USA. Racism and prejudice are also factors that makes many of the ones you see there reacting to conditions that they are experiencing, in the end they want to win money so as to also then pay the state in the form of taxes.

Of course any one doing violent things should be arrested and prosecuted for causing damage, but I do understand why they could resort to violence. This however has little to do with terrorism. One of the few that did die in the riot was also a Muslim that tried to extinguish some of the fires.

Your wide brush statement about all of “them hating us” is really reprehensible.

Your wide brush statement about millions of Muslims not REALLY hating us, and then attacking me for stating the obvious is what is reprehensible.

Not everyone has to participate in terror and murder and riots, as you and your friends seem to think. There are many times the number of Muslim sympathizers as their are terrorists. These sympathizers raise money and encourage terror, the better to establish their caliphate. You might look it up yourself. Any source I provide is always dismissed and giggled at by Straight Gigglers.

You pretend that it was an isolated incident, and so long ago that it is no longer relevant. Your broad brush assumption is reprehensible, and so is the ongoing defense of Muslim violence, ignorance, terror, and mayhem. There have been many, many other incidences of riots, protests, and badmouthing of every western civilization that has been foolish enough to welcome tens of thousands, with countless barbarians in their midst. Here is but another:

Oh wait, that was way back in August. It doesn’t count either, does it. Nor do the thousands of European women being raped by these savages.

My bad.

Since I did not say that you are quoting me it is clear that you have nothing to support your hate.

As for the rest of your tirade, I also did say that the ones that do not follow the law should be arrested and have due process. Nothing like the straw man you are propping up here. No one is defending the rioting guys, understanding why something is happening does not mean that we approve of it.

And once again this does not have much to do with terrorists, and a Muslim did die in an attempt to stop the damage that took place there.

Renaissance Man, I grow tired of this. Altering the text inside quote boxes is a violation of our rules here. You are responsible for knowing the rules of the Straight Dope Message Board and abiding within them.

One more problem. Just one. And you’re done here for good. I hope that’s clear.

You are probably correct that facts will avail us nothing in the face of your own demonstrated hatred.

You claim that “Muslims” are rioting, yet the reality is that the vast majority of the kids who have rioted, off and on, over the last decade, in France, have been third and even fourth generation immigrants who rarely actually practice Islam. They are the disaffected youth who have turned away from the religion of their parents and grandparents. (This year, there has been a slight upturn in the number who claim to be Muslim, based largely on the recruiting efforts of Daesh among the disaffected.)

You claim that they have been"welcomed," yet that is hardly an accurate statement. In fact, they have generally been grudgingly accepted as the necessary replacements for manual jobs in industrialized nations that need immigrants to replace the labor force in a society with declining birth rates. They are generally consigned to poor neighborhoods with laws that impede their ability to become citizens, (even when born there), and erect tremendous obstacles to their ability to purchase housing, condemning them to live in rental units where discrimination keeps large numbers in the most run down sections.

I have no idea what “money” you think has been “given” them, but it is, typically, the sort of stipends that prevent them only from starving while not permitting them to actually work their way out of their poverty–and they are given money, at all, only because their parents or grandparents were encouraged to immigrate to provide labor–while the recession of the last eight years, that has harmed Europe more than the U.S., has caused many of those jobs for which they were recruited to fade away.

You also make the fatuous statement that “they hate us” without demonstrating that you have any genuine idea who “they” are or who they actually hate or the reasons behind any hatred “they” demonstrate.

The vast majority of Muslims do not hate their non-Muslim European neighbors and pointing to kids who do not practice Islam and claiming that “Muslims” hate “us,” (whoever you put in the “us” category), is ridiculous.

He just a Poe boy from a Poe family…

… I mean, I hope that was a Poe.
