41% of Americans support Syrian immigration

??? Why would we be? About 10% of our new posters are trolls. Would you eat a bowl of M&M Candies if 10% of them were poisoned? C’mon, how stupid do you think we are?

I’ve recently drafted a proposal that prevents all new members–even people fleeing 4chan–from joining our messageboard, for exactly this reason. The fact that my proposal hasn’t passed is the only reason you’re here. It’s as if…

…darn, I can’t think of a good analogy.

Bring this back on topic, this lefty website has an interesting take on Syrian refugees…

Lefty? CATO is libertarian.

I would have put more effort into my sarcasm for that post but I’m just home from work and dead tired.

Hitler’s party called themselves Sozi, short for Nazionalsozialismus. Their enemies dubbed them Nazi, which stuck.

They were not Social Democrats. The Social Democrats are the center-left party in Germany today. They were Nationalists, or National Socialists.

Now, they saw themselves as progressive, sort of, but maybe also with restorationist atavistic elements, like autocracy. They were generally considered right-of-center by the industrialists who backed them, and an alternative to the “far left” of radical Communism. Calling Hitler’s party “far left-wing” is really misreading the situation.

Well, yeah - publishing “dissent” from climate change deniers is a bit like giving time to flat-earthers. At a certain point you have to either acknowledge the evidence or cut your ties to reality.

Or, I suppose, if you’re Buzz Aldrin you can just punch the face of someone declaring the moon landing was a hoax.

To expand: Hitler’s party, which was the National Socialist Worker’s Party before he came along, were Nationalists, or National Socialists. Hitler’s policies emphasized the Nationalist part over the Socialist part, specifically to get away from what he saw as “far-left” tendencies.

Sorry, this misunderstanding is a pet peeve of mine. Nazionalsozialismus as defined by Hitler was pretty seriously a repudiation of the Marxist Left, and strongly aligned to right-wing business interests. They were toward the totalitarian end of the authoritarian tendency, but they were not what is generally understood by the terms “Left” or “socialist.”

Oh, sure, everybody forgets Harper’s. :stuck_out_tongue:

You know it’s a good thread when someone plays the nazi card…

Originally there was a lefty class-warrior wing in the Nazi Party – see Strasserism – but Hitler permanently purged all of that (and Strasser himself) in the Night of the Long Knives.

I stand firm against allowing any Syrian Nazis into the US! Not one!!

No, dissent from the global warming hoax is not remotely like “flat-earthers.” Your absurd analogy may elicit giggles from your pals here, but you wrote nothing factual or material, nor have any of your pals.

There is a plethora of detailed information to be considered at http://TheGlobalWarmingFraud.wordpress.com but for the most obvious of reasons, not one of you has done more than post a link which you pretend debunks pages and pages of data and graphs. Your own original comments are sadly lacking, and for the most obvious of reasons. You know nothing about water, about “sciency,” about chemistry, or about a miniscule amount of carbon dioxide supposedly driving earth’s climate.

Wait… is this the Syrian Nazi thread or the Global Warming Hemoglobin thread? I’m getting confused here!!

Within a few years “children just aren’t going to know what snow is.” Snowfall will be “a very rare and exciting event.”- Dr. David Viner, senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, interviewed by the UK Independent, March 20, 2000.

“[By] 1995, the greenhouse effect would be desolating the heartlands of North America and Eurasia with horrific drought, causing crop failures and food riots…[By 1996] The Platte River of Nebraska would be dry, while a continent-wide black blizzard of prairie topsoil will stop traffic on interstates, strip paint from houses and shut down computers.” Michael Oppenheimer, published in “Dead Heat,” St. Martin’s Press, 1990.

“By 1985, air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half.” - Life magazine, January 1970.

“By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people … If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.” - Paul Ehrlich, Speech at British Institute For Biology, September 1971.

“In ten years all important animal life in the sea will be extinct. Large areas of coastline will have to be evacuated because of the stench of dead fish.” - Paul Ehrlich, speech during Earth Day, 1970.

Confessions of a Computer Modeler by Robert J. Caprara
Wall Street Journal, July 8, 2014
After earning a master’s degree in environmental engineering in 1982, I spent most of the next 10 years building large-scale environmental computer models. ////
When I presented the results to the EPA official in charge, he said that I should go back and “sharpen my pencil.” I did. I reviewed assumptions, tweaked coefficients and recalibrated data. But when I reran everything the numbers didn’t change much. At our next meeting he told me to run the numbers again.
After three iterations I finally blurted out, “What number are you looking for?” He didn’t miss a beat: He told me that he needed to show $2 billion of benefits to get the program renewed. I finally turned enough knobs to get the answer he wanted, and everyone was happy.

Hundreds more comments and critiques like these could be posted, but they would all be dismissed by the rest of you with a giggly comment or two. Not “sciency,” but giggles.

Isn’t this thread about Syrian immigration? I thought your crazy global warming ‘theories’ were in another thread. Are you just confused?

Wrong thread, and still wrong.

What you have there was posted in the Independent UK paper, and it was not made a scientist but by a staffer with no knowledge in the subject and he had to misinterpret what the scientists told him.

The points you are making are indeed “the equivalent of school yard gossip”

As for the subject at hand, the Republican congress critters just has a new motto:

“We will be brave in our everlasting fight to defend our cowardice!”

Hey maybe the global warming hoax and the upcoming ravaging hordes of refugees are related! Didja even think about that??!?

How do you feel about Muslim Communists?

Or soccer fans? I think THEY are the real threat.

Wasn’t there actually a thread here recently about someone’s hypothesis that the Syrian Civli War was the result of Global Warming? Or was it the entire Arab Spring? I swear if it wasn’t here, I read it somewhere else!

You jest, but global warming was very likely a factor that helped a lot on that.
