Supposedly the Masai used to hunt lions that way. Not with midgets, but by wrestling the lion (sort of). The hunters would surround the lion, and then one would zip in while the lion was looking the other way, grab ahold of the tail and hang on. This kept the lion distracted trying to kill the guy attached to its tail instead of just smashing through the hunters encircling it, so the others could step into range with spears and shields and finish it off. If I recall aright, if the tail-grabber guy survived, he was given the tail to wear as an ornament and from then on was officially considered a “bad mofo” in Masailand.
Clearly a hoax. I thought it was fairly well known that the Cambodian Midget Fighting League was a league formed by Laotians (of normal Laotian proportions) to fight Cambodian Midgets.
