It depends on the wording, but the fact that some wordings get a positive result means that Trump’s team can message this properly and win politically.
The fact that the ban is temporary is probably the clincher. It’s what, 4 months? If Trump hadn’t been so stupid and applied it to existing visa holders and permanent residents he’d probably have 60% support right now for this policy.
But, that wasn’t the policy.

And there it is. It was stupid. The man is stupid. His staff is stupid. At least in the context of governance and international affairs.
They have done permanent damage to international relations. People who had valid visas, who had been given permission to enter our country, who had gotten on planes and flown here, were told “you’re not welcome, go home”. Some were treated like criminals. Some were handcuffed. Children were kept from parents. Why should anyone trust us from now on?
They’ve given a gift to radical Islamists, who can now point and say “see how America treats Muslims”. They’ve probably done more damage to our national security than letting in some valid visa holders or refugees would ever do.
Radical Islamists do not need to point to the Trump ban as evidence of how the US views muslims. That was apparent years ago. Those who are inclined to join ISIS will still do so, EXecutive order or not. Everyone else does not need an absence of this order to know ISIS is insane nor this order to know American governments propensity.
If anything Trumps honesty is refreshing.

For my region this is very shocking. Perhaps for the Indopak region it is different, but for the Maghreb and the African side it has the real effect.
It makes if difficult to speak in any defense of the americans, and it helps the DAESH.

Would you support a full ban on Muslims? If, instead of a temporary ban that effects only Muslims by an overwhelming percentage (or whatever semantic game you need play), Trump had simply enacted a no entry for people from Muslim majority countries. Would you support that?

Here’s my problem with Trump’s moratorium or ban or whatever:

If you want to put a moratorium on people from a country or countries entering your country, you stop issuing new visas. You don’t refuse to honor valid visas issued before the executive order.

The countries chosen were rather arbitrary. Supposedly the issue was stability, but that doesn’t really apply to all the countries on the list. The list should have been based on where the terrorists come from.

Today I get in my social media exchange the Arabic note celebrating as an example of standing up to the religious hatred and the bigotry, the picture and bio in arabic of the judge Anne Donnely who issued that first blocking order, celebrating this as the sign that there are still the decent people in the American government to stand up against those who are trying to promote religious warfare and bigotry.
