Just caught this gem on TCM this afternoon after not seeing it since I was a kid ( I am now 55). Always enjoyed the dungeon elevator scene the best, I always wondered if his eyes were real ? Gotta love Dr Suess!
I was working at a school one summer where they played this for the kids (a summer special). One of the janitors in the back watching it nudged another janitor and asked “Can you believe guys got paid to DO this?”
I’ve often thought this belongs on a doubvle bill with Dr. T and the Women
I picked this up on DVD the week before I left for Oklahoma.
I am really looking forward to getting back home and watching it.
Proof that a live-action version of Dr Seuss doesn’t have to suck.
This was the first film my partner and I saw together, in a New York film festival, back in the late 80s. Very strange and very memorable.
Yeah, it’s a real gem of 50’s wholesomeness and Seussian surrealism. I have this on DVD and love dragging it out for people who’ve never seen it.
There are several samples from this movie on Meat Beat Manifesto’s “Armed Audio Warfare” album. This really cracked me up since I had been a fan of the album for years before I saw the movie.
