That party David dragged Keith to, it seemed to contain every gay man stereotype known to man. Are there really brunches like this out there? Mimosas? Quiche?
Plus, I think I finally saw the psychotic side of Lisa. Everyone else is always saying what a loon she is, but I just never saw it. But that whole “Did Brenda touch my baby?” episode really opened my eyes.
And I think I figured out why I like this show: I can never quite figure out what the characters are up to. There’s nothing predictable about any them. Especially Nate. If this guy decided to go jump off a bridge, it really wouldn’t surprise me any more than him masturbating in his car on a deserted road.
The Ruth-Arthur infatuation drove me nuts! Things are really way overboard with this pair. On the other hand, the Claire-Russell relationship is progressing nicely. I like those two together. But I think Claire will figure out some way to screw things up.
David and Keith are just getting too difficult to watch. I think they’re finished. . . or should be. But I have no clue who Gretchen Mol is either. Should I know?
I’m interested in the Vanessa-Federico storyline. I think we’re going to see a real mental breakdown here and it’s gonna hit Federico like a runaway dumptruck.
Nate? Poor Nate. He was so adorable with the baby in last night’s episode. And I think he’s really trying to do the “right” thing, but the right thing keeps changing. Lisa IS a nutcase. She is so insecure. . . and she has every reason to be. She makes me squirm just to watch her, so I suppose that means the actress is doing a great job.
Remember, the host said the “quiche was in quotes”, acknowledging the stereotype.
Great episode. After weeks of set-up, things are starting to get rolling. And I’ve seen a lot of creepy things in three seasons of SFU, but Ruth dancing and singing “My Favorite Things” while Arthur played the organ HAS to be the creepiest!
lol Ewing is so on target with Ruth. She was the one that was scaring me this episode, not Lisa. Lisa’s insane, this I understand completely. I can’t wait to find out what happens between her and Brenda.
I found this episode to be a return to SFU’s former glory, since I thought it was lacking the last few episodes in this third season. Either the writing changed or the 8 month gap screwed things up.
Anybody else think that Keith is going to decide that he’s not entirely gay?
We’ve had a couple of major hints. Last week, discussing his coming out, he said “I really like fucking women!”, and now he was really uncomfortable at this other gay.
Yeah, Lisa’s fucking psycho! Remember, the first time we met her? She was talking to ants, trying to reason them into leaving her house. Then she confessed her love for Nate to Claire. Claire got that she was psycho. Remember, folks, Nate likes psychobetties. They fuck like wild animals.
Arthur’s just creepy as all hell. He’s got that whole 30-year-old-virgin thing going and it really makes me uncomfortable. Ruth finding him attractive is even more disturbing. Maybe that’s why Nate likes 'em psycho; because mom’s out there. Wait 'til Betina gets back from Wyoming & finds out about this!
David & Keith actually seem to be getting along really well. OK, they’re really trying. Can’t wait until next week when Keith takes David & the chorus boys to play paintball with his cop buddies.
Claire’s got herself a guy who’ll give her some respect (unlike Gabe or Phil) and they were actually friends before they got naked together. (I hear it tends to work better that way, but in 38 years I have never gone from buddies to boyfriend/girlfriend.) He does seem to be pretty flakey (clingy, neurotic, low self-esteem). I hope this is good but I can’t see it actually lasting very long.
I like Frederico more when I see him relate to Vanessa. She seems to bring out his appealing qualities more. At work, he’s very professional except for that chip on his shoulder, that long-suffering, put-upon attitude. I think he & Nate have a lot more in common than either one wants to admit & for that reason they get on one another’s nerves.
I’m not saying Lisa’s altogether there but I think her reaction to Brenda is entirely to be expected. Afterall, Nate cheated on Brenda with her when Mya was conceived. So, she understands that Nate has the propensity to cheat, given the opportunity.
I disagree. She said she had no problem with him going to the funeral, but then completely flipped out when she found out that he took the baby. “Did she touch her?” “Did she look at her?” That’s completely whacked.
I agree this was a great episode. The Arthur/Ruth interplay was really creepy. Next week’s episode looks equally disturbing - I’m definitely looking forward to Brenda and Lisa meeting.
I guess I’m just saying, she knows he’s capable of cheating and that makes her (even more) unstable. She can’t control Nate (and who touches him)but figures she can control Mya (and who touches her).
Geez, we’re talking about these people like they’re real.
Sorry, but I’m not rooting for them. I don’t really care if they do the Harold and Maude thing, but the intense…ummm…intensity that Ruth is displaying is not a good thing. She makes me so uncomfortable with every episode. I know that’s probably the point, but man, she’s giving me the creeps more than Arthur, and that’s saying alot.
I would’ve understood Lisa saying no to Brenda’s father’s funeral, but her anger at Maya’s presence was just ridiculous. And I think that Lisa’s jealousness will drive Nate right to Brenda.
Rico is actually kind and patient with Vanessa, so I look forward to more about the two of them.
And concerning the party that David and Keith went to…David is typically so hypersensitive. He should’ve been able to see that Keith was miserable. I thought David’s insistence on staying for another few hours did not bode well for their relationship. Not to mention that the “wear a tight shirt” thing that David insisted upon earlier was a bit too much as well.
Why doesn’t Lauren Ambrose have an Oscar yet? OK, I know her last movie was entitled Psycho Beach Party, but the Academy should just be making up awards for her to win. In particular last week’s hook-up scene with Russel (which I just saw on Monday) – the instant he says something psycho she falls for him. You can see it in her eyes immediately and then for about two seconds before she starts kissing him.
This is the best season this show has seen so far, albeit also he most inconsistent. When it’s on, it’s so goddam on – the final scene (also last week) with Nate and Lisa, basking in post-coital bliss, both slowly realizing that it didn’t fix anything. Or in this week’s episode, with Keith’s emotional see-saw at the party. It really is like they’re real people. (Except for Ruth – there’s nobody like that.)

P.S. Yes, I have seen Psycho Beach Party, and I am aware that it is excellent.
I have always loved Ruth best of all, so where she’s going isn’t making me too happy.
Lisa is of course entirely correct to be completely insecure, btu the way she handles it is entirely wrong and she is going to chase Nate right off a cliff. And Lili Taylor utterly rocks my world.
Keith is a fucking asshole who has no appeal apart from his looks. He needs to get way over himself and lighten the fuck up.
