I missed the first twenty mins, someone fill me in. I came in when Ruth kissed him “again.”
Hmm. Well, David called one of the friends that came to the paintball game with him. “Daddy” obviously died. The wives were all singing “Horse With No Name.” Ruth kissed the intern in his bedroom after a playful tussle over his laundry (she wanted to do it for him). It was almost exactly the same as the second one that you saw. Claire and her boyfriend went to their teacher’s house, and he definitely seemed high (or higher than normal).
This episode was the inspiration for my new sig.
Ok, good, I didn’t think I missed too much.
Sooooo, did Olivier come on to Russell or not? And, if so, did Russell welcome the advance? Anyone? Anyone?
Wild ass guess? Russell and Olivier got freaky.
The Ruth/Intern story-line is just… ick. I also have to wonder about how they are portraying Ruth in this - she seems more “crazy” than infatuated or in love.
Heh… I liked the twist that the lice was from Rico, not Vanessa.
Once again, the disagreement in the MeanJoe household grows deeper over Lisa. I say she is a 100% certifiable loon, Mrs. MeanJoe says I just don’t understand women. I know I do not understand women but Lisa is still a loon and as someone else pointed out in another post - the actress playing Lisa is still listed as a “Guest Star”.
I missed that part. When did that happen? I guess it was while I was going from the upstairs to the downstairs. I did walk in when the Fishers were talking about “boiling everything” but I thought they were saying that Rico brought it to the funeral home. I hope Vanessa snaps out of it soon. I loved it when her last line was, “Our kids have bugs.”
I was getting OK with the Ruth/Arthur thing until the last scene where he started to “snuggle” her back and I just got creeped out again.
David/Keith? What’s up with those two? I started watching last night thinking about that someone said last week (i.e. perhaps Keith turns out to be hetero) but I just don’t know. The intresting thing about watching Keith and David is that David is gay and acts more like a woman. Keith is gay but seems more like a man. I don’t know any gay people IRL so I don’t know if this is a typical gay relationship. Just seems interesting.
mmm…
The Fishers were saying they were going to miss The People and all those children, even with their lice. Then came the line about “boiling everything” and Rico did his double-take.
But, no matter where the lice came from, Vanessa should have been aware of it and done something about it. If this is what it takes to get her some help, then I say Hooray for the lice!
Ahhh… Thanks, annieclaus.
…would make an excellent sig. May I?
The whole Ruth/Arthur thing is creepy. Nate Sr. needs to come back and tell Ruth to snap out of it! Just too weird.
I’m liking Lisa less and less, and I wasn’t too fond of her from the start. The nonsense about spying on Brenda is just too psycho. And it looks like next week, they officially “meet” - can’t wait to see how that plays.
I used to like Keith, but he’s starting to irritate me, too. He’s going out of his way to be nasty to David - like he’s trying to force David to be the one who breaks it off. He’s a bully.
I’m pulling for Vanessa - poor Rico deserves a normal life, what with working with the whacko Fishers. I think out of all of them, he’s the one I’d most likely befriend.
I love this show!
But of course!
There is a serious ICK factor in that Ruth/Arthur ‘affair’. And what the hell was that cat nuzzling thing he was doing to her at the end? Bleech.
And Lisa sounded even MORE psycho at the end when she said (to Nate) something to the effect of, “You just better be glad I love you. You better be glad.”
Sounded like a threat to me. She’s defintely got issues.
I don’t understand why everyone hates Ruth/Arthur. They seem like soulmates to me.
And I think David & Keith’s relationship seems healthy at the moment. There doesn’t seem to be as much tension between them. And the potential problems seem to be worked out before they become serious/ It looks to me like they’re learning to live with each other.
I am with everyone when it comes to Lisa. If she’s reprsentative of all women, I’m turning gay.
Did anyone find the eulogy for “Daddy” to be especially moving?
I thought that the last scene between Ruth and Arthur was rather moving. Arthur held his body apart from hers which made the snuggling seem to be more genuinely loving rather than just sexual.
She said, “You’re lucky I love you.” Nate’s face had the same expression that mine did, as in “What the hell?”
I agree, but it could’ve been for the same reason that I had when I was a young boy with my first girlfriend. . .to hide his raging boner
I was thinking of inviting “Sarge” over to my place for late night drinks…was funny to see David’s expression as Sarge was just whipping up a big old breakfast in the morning and told him to scoot over.
Ruth and Arthur are destined to be the odd couple of the year…but I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually got married. Be worth it just to see Claire’s face.
Lisa is certainly headed for a psycho breakdown of major proportions…my prediction:
Season finale will be with Lisa appearing in the first 5 minutes of the episode, if you know what I mean.
When Keith invited Sarge to share their bed, I thought he finally acted like the gay men I know. I think that’s gonna cause problems in their relationship, since David is so needy & clingy.
Arthur seems uncomfortable with his own sexuality. Maybe he’s afraid of it, I don’t know. I have no idea why Ruth would find him attractive.
The oldest girl from “the people” showing infatuation for Nate; I thought that was cute. Give her a few years to grow up, she’ll have all the issues from being raised in a polygamist system along with lice. Poor kid.
Lisa is definitely psycho. Her setting up an appointment with Brenda under an assumed name didn’t really surprise me.
Claire finally acted like an “artiste” with her fit about assisting Olivier. I have no idea if he came on to Russel.
Lisa: Not psycho. And although I know their relationship is doomed, I thought the scene at the end where she says “You’re just lucky I love you” was quite romantic.

Well, if she’s not psycho, she’s at least incredibly jealous and insecure. Believe me, I’ve been that woman before*, so I know the signs. Although, I’ve never gone to see anyone’s ex-girlfriend so I can see what she’s like. You have to admit, that’s a little nutty, right?
And the “You’re lucky I love you” line seemed to be more of a warning than a romantic gesture.
*[sub]I’m no longer like this. My husband would tell you I’m quite well-adjusted now.[/sub]
Well I used to date that woman – and while it eventually drove me away, I don’t think it’s psycho at all, especially given what Lisa knows about Brenda – she was obviously the love of his life (so thinks Lisa, reasonably), because before he met her he had no desire whatsoever to settle down, and then suddently he did. And the only reason she knows of that Nate-Brenda didn’t work out is because “I went nuts, she went nuts, it didn’t work out.” That can’t inspire confidence. The reason I thought Lisa was so sexy in the last scene is because she finally (all tho’ I’m sure temporarily) got over her insecurity – which is the one thing that makes her unattractive.
Another thing I loved about this episode (and it has bearing on the ongoing Lisa: psycho or not? debate) is the treatment of “the people.” Yes, they were creepy, but to me it seemed like the question as to whether they were seriously whacko or just eccentric was left open. Some of the stuff with the teenage girl seemed like there was something untoward about Daddy’s raltionship with his flock ("He was Daddy, but he wasn’t my daddy.), but then again she could just be a shy girl hitting on Nate. Anyway, I love this ambiguity – that’s just like real life: we meet people, we see part of their stories, but in most cases we don’t get the whole story and there’s usually more to them – good and/or bad – than we’ll ever know.

This is cool - I haven’t noticed this show being talked about before (not that I come here often). I think right now this is my favorite show around right now.
Anyway, my gut reaction to some of the things discussed here:
I think Russel and Olivier had some big experience, beyond Olivier simply hitting on him. I mean, Claire comes back to Olivier putting his watch on as if he were just getting dressed, Russel is sitting there complacently… Especially after all the hinting at Russel being gay. Then how distant Russel was acting the rest of the night. Definitely something up, even if nothing happened between them and it’s just Russel questioning his sexuality all of a sudden. I just have a feeling about it.
I think Keith and David are the only normal couple in the show (which is a brilliant IMO - make the gay couple the ones with the most normal, most openinly analyzed relationship - I think it’s awesome that they do this.) I think the paintball thing was a great response to getting taken to the party that he hated. It’s good for them… although I was surprised when David acknowledged his ok that Sarge could join them. I figured he’d be more jealous or something. Or maybe he is, and it will come up later… it did seem a bit akward the next morning (but is it ever not akward?)
Lisa and Nate - well, I think they both know exactly what the nature of their agreement is, and they both deny it. Lisa is obviously incredibly insecure, although my take on it after this show is that she is worried less about Brenda - after Brenda said she wouldn’t change anything even if she could, there was a major change in Lisa. I agree it probably won’t last, and I see something big happening with all three of them soon, although it’s hard to say what given the nature of the show!
I just have to say I feel for Rico, man. Getting the shaft from Nate and David all day, the terribly troubled wife that needs help but won’t admit to it… I think things were finally looking up for him, at least a little. I hope.
Ruth and Arthur - I admit the kiss caught me way off guard. The second one made me cringe. The end was so akward I was practically tearing my eyes out not watch, but I couldn’t help it. But that’s just my take, and the absurdity and real life akwardness/weirdness is why I love the show so much…
