60s groups where all original members are still alive?

only original members. That’s not too complicated to find out for most groups.

Fleetwood Mac only lost their original bass player , Bob Brunning who was before McVie.

King Crimson’s original 1969 lineup: Robert Fripp, Ian McDonald, Greg Lake, Michael Giles, Pete Sinfield.

Procol Harum’s original 1967 lineup: Gary Brooker, Matthew Fisher, David Knights, Ray Royer, Bobby Harrison, Keith Reid.
(The late B.J. Wilson and the still-kicking Robin Trower are not technically original members, although they are usually considered so.)

Even counting non-performing lyricists in both cases.

Were they actually called “Fleetwood Mac”? I’ve always understood that the group’s name was derived from the surnames of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.

yes they were Fleetwood Mac before McVie. He did not join right away, Peter Green came up with the name because he knew both of them from his previous group with John Mayall. The name was meant to get McVie to join which he eventually did.

Neither of those was well known in the sixties

Everyone who’s ever been in the Moody Blues is alive…except for the original bassist who was in the band for 2 f’n years. D’oh!

Manfred Mann: Manfred Mann himself, Paul Jones, Mike Hugg, Mike Vickers, and Dave Richmond (replaced early on by Tom McGuinness).

Status Quo

How apt

Well…damn him for still being dead! :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry, the Rutles don’t count in this field. Ollie Halsell (who did the singing, and guitar playing, and was the “real” Rutle that Eric Idle fronted for in the film) died in 1992.

Previous thread from 2009.

Many of the examples in that thread no longer apply, but some still do.

Damn you, you beat me to it. I guess there is more than one Golden Earring fan outside Holland.

Hey now, “Radar Love” and “Twilight Zone” were huge hits in the States.

And the unchanged-lineup-since-1970 thing is one of my favorite bits of music trivia.

It’s funny how CSN is thought of as a very 60s band when their first album didn’t come out until mid-69. Young didn’t join them until the next album which came out in 1970.

But I wouldn’t count them. Dallas Taylor was the drummer and an important member of the group. On the first album Stills played just about all the instruments except drums. He was the drummer on the first two albums and gets credit on the cover of the second. Dallas Taylor died last year.

and doing private concerts for Gen Franco:D

today July 3rd is the day in 69 that Brian Jones died

Nah, lead guitarist Derek Leckenby died in 1994 when he was only 51

Not sure if applicable, but…

Scorpions 1965-Present.

Founding members still around and kicking, although many lineups over time.

Not since June 2010, when original bassist Pete Quaife died.
Note that the OP/thread title only requires that all original members still be alive. Someone who replaced one of the original members could have died without disqualifying the group from this thread (and it might qualify for the “original outlives the replacement” thread).
