70s music video clips: a compendium of the cheesiest and greatest

What horrid videos! My gosh, how could people back then stand it?! I mean, the edits and cuts last wayyy more than a second each!
For all you funkateers out there, I give you some Cosmic Slop.

(though I can’t find any time-relevant vids, I must give a shout to Betty Davis. Not Bette (the actress), but the Queen of f.u.n.k. When’s the last time you had a real good, spine-shivering eargasm? Spend some time with Ms. Davis. You’ll thank me.)

I have a vague memory of that - got link?

I’m not sure how to take this thread. I entered high school in the fall of 1969, so the '70’s (high school, college, and immediately thereafter) were pretty much my era. But I may not have been very hip, because most of this stuff is incredibly cheesy to me. Actually, I probably never saw the visual interpretations of the music associated with them.

I’m looking at Bowie, but he keeps reminding me of a young Holland Taylor.

Am I that Easy to Forget?

Dirty, Sweet, Clad in Black, Diamond Hubcap Halo.

I’m strangely partial to Wings.

Livin’ thing.

Most every thing looked like this in those days…crazy bespectacled stoners with big fros hair and string sections of polyester. That is my nightmare and Geist.

I challenge you to find something from the 70’s that isn’t very hairy. There’s a big 70’s hair backlash going on right now… it’s almost a puritanical hair thing, heavy societal shift in pilomorays.

Let’s hear it for Freddie and the gang!
(Actually, I think it holds up pretty well).

JCSS
Ode to Billy joe… the lifeless set and mannequin diorama in this particular version is quite disturbing

Jolene…Lot’s of electric mauve here…very psychedelic country.

Gotta throw the flag here. Ode to Billy Joe is from 1967. Great clip, though.

Here are some:

Boogie Nights - Heatwave

I Want You Back -Jackson 5 (special guest appearance by Bill Cosby)

Hole in the Sky - Black Sabbath (Ozzy, man)

If anyone has wondered what punk rock was rebelling against in the 70s, this thread ought to give you a good clue.

You’re sixteen. And you’re beautiful. And you’re cheesy.

Reelin’ In the Years - Steely Dan (with another special appearance by Bill Cosby!)

Bang a Gong - T Rex

Love Is Alive - Gary Wright (More cowbell!)

How could we forget these guys:

Come Sail Away - Styx

Do Ya - Electric Light Orchestra (with exciting new laser technology!)

You Sexy Thing - Hot Chocolate

I’d forgotten what a force of nature her hair was.

Wow…a rare glimpse of Jeff Lynne’s eyes!! (He almost always wears dark glasses)

In the 70s, Queen was one of the few first bands that really did music videos (rather than just a video of the band standing on stage, performing or lip-synching).

More Than a Feeling - Boston

No Cliff Richard?

(I always loved this song)

Is it any wonder bands initially resisted the video age?
