70s music video clips: a compendium of the cheesiest and greatest

Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush

The cartoon video for Cher’s “Dark Lady” gave me nightmares for years.

Oh, my…the drummer looks like a caveman with an Afro.

It’s a very catchy tune … Are the verses in English, or should I even bother?

Seek and ye shall find…

In other words, both.

Love Rollercoaster - The Ohio Players

Heh! The Sweet definitely served lots of ham with that cheese!
& T Rex reminds us that pop music should be fun!

And let us not forget John Travolta’s brief singing career:

Let Her In - John Travolta

Also, I’m going to link these not because they’re particularly cheesy, but because I love 'em so much:

Low Rider - War

Cisco Kid - War

Rivers of Babylon was originally recorded by The Melodians, around 1972. The lyrics are from a biblical psalm. It’s classic reggae. It appears on one of the most classic reggae albums of all time, The Harder They Come. Now, the Boney M version may not reflect that roots rock reggae sensibility, but I vehemently disagree that it’s one of the worst songs ever written.

And I do believe that’s Rita Marley (wife of Bob Marley, and a crucial reggae artist in her own right) at 2:01 and again at about 2:58 in the video.

… the enduring mystery of how in the hell a second-rate derivative cover act like Boney M ever became global pop stars …

Because German cheese is the best cheese. Boney M. were the brainchild of a German music producer named Frank Farian. He is also the man behind Milli Vanilli.

Talk about hair.
