Robert Altman is cool. His speech was actually pretty engaging, and I liked the last bit about him getting the award under false pretenses. I hope he’s right about having 40 more years left on it.
Far and away the best moment of the night: Tomlin and Streep’s utterly brilliant intro, followed by Robert Altman’s acceptance of his lifetime achievement award. Very moving.
Man, that was a long way to go for an American Express ad.

or;

I usually like Academy Award shows, even those that are widely panned afterward. But this is one dull sumbitch! I’m switchin’ to Flaavor Flaaaaav!

And I was shocked when Eminem won the Oscar a couple years back. Geez. What a bad song. I like a rap every now and then, but even for a rap that was bad.
The performance of “Pimp” was disappointing. I can’t believe how much they sanitized and pussified the lyrics. I’m glad it won, though.

The whole evening was worth it to see the words “HARD OUT HERE FOR A PIMP” on the marquee, but “a whole lot of witches jumping ship”? WTF. Lame. Why couldn’t Terrence Howard sing it? Taraji Henson was singing the hook, wasn’t she? Loved her screaming out the word PIMP at the top of her lungs. And the skit dance in the front, why do they even bother with that?
Queen Latifah was pretty funny.

Kidding, though it was the best song nominated, for sure. And when else can you get an Oscar winner with a skull and crossbones tattooed on his neck? I’d like to see the 3-6 Mafia get into it with Itzhak Perlman’s posse.
