And the best picture is…
CRASH
And the best picture is…
CRASH
WOW! Upset! CRASH WINS!
OK, OK, I see big mo for BROKEBACK.
Oh, Jack–Ca-po-tay?
What is with the teleprompters tonight?
drum roll…
CRASH!!
YEEESSSSS! WOO HOO!
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I thought that was the most overrated movie of the year (PLUS it came out in 2004)!
Best Picture:
Crash
WHAT AN UPSET! I am really surprised. Holy shit. Really. I guess some folks saw this coming, but not me. I liked both, but Brokeback Mountain was my pick. Damn.
Thanks, everyone, for watching the Oscars with me. You made it all a hell of a lot more fun than it would have been if I were sitting here watching it all alone. The SDMB rocks!
Crash, Cool
I read someone predicting Crash would win, because it’s about racial issues and Los Angeles, and that would appeal to members of the academy.
Wow…that was unexpected (well, at least to me).
I figured it’d be either Brokeback or Munich.
Holy shit look at the guns on that lady.
What a bunch of bullshit. Crash was not even the third best movie nominated.
Crash, ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.
This is “Dances With Wolves” bad.
The fifth best movie won.
Hmm…Crash was a 11/10 bet, while Brokeback Mountain was a 1/6 bet. Interesting.
This has been suprising.
Stewart wasn’t particulary funny, and Brokeback didn’t win Best Picture.
Cathy Schulman, STFU! Her partner didn’t even get to talk. I hope he kicks her in the shin as soon as they get offstage.
Any of the others nominated I wouldn’t have disagreed with… but Crash???
And did they just cut her mic off?
Crash is the only one of the nominated Best Picture movies that I saw…and I thought it was laughably bad. Over-wrought, painfully ‘sincere,’ and totally unbelievable. It was like the worst kind of “Oprah Book Club” movie. Oh well.
Next year they’ll do one about an interracial street gangmembers having a gay affair in South Central LA and it’ll be a shoe-in.
My picks for best picture were (in order of most deserving to least [and I totally concede it’s purely subjective]):
Good Night/Good Luck
Brokeback Mountain
Capote
Munich
Crash
(And it was odd seeing the Israeli Olympic team get murdered while talking about Munich- footage got a little off synch there.)
This is the first year in over a decade that I can’t even fathom what the academy was thinking in the Best Picture category. That it even got nominated was a travesty, in my opinion. It would have made a great after school special, though.
I thought it was amusing when Ang Lee said he made the movie mostly for his recently deceased father. I have to wonder how an old world Taiwanese man would regard a movie about American cowboys humping each other.
