Yes. They also had highlights of the Scientific & Technical Awards (and they actually gave away two Oscar statuettes (usually reserved for reasonably major inventions) at that event this year), if you missed those as well.
I was surprised to see Peter Asher in the credits. I remember him from Peter & Gordon, and his sister from her relationship with Paul McCartney, but didn’t realize he was still so involved with music. I googled a picture of him, and boy has he changed. Of course when I look at myself from 50 years ago it’s hard to believe I’m the same species as the young girl I see in the picture.
Hey I know you’re a mod, but some formats don’t show your moderator title. You might want to put “Modding:” in your modding posts to avoid confusion for some readers, and also just to differentiate from your regular contributions.
He did. Or am I dreaming?
They did, and Billy made some jokes about him being boring.
I see a “Moderating” note in his post. Maybe I’m dreaming, too. If so, what a mundane dream.
Correction noted…but was Plummer’s speech that long?
It doesn’t show up on Tapatalk for your phone.
A moderating note on whose post?
In Marley’s post. Just above his quote of Horseface’s offense, I see the word Moderating in bold.
Well, nothing can be “Crash” bad. That was indeed a terrible movie. But I don’t think any of the nominees were strong enough for us to have a collective sense that any of them were
jilted.
It was long, but mostly because he was really slow talker with lots of pauses.
Sorry if it has been posted before, but here is a montage(Oscar-style) of the snubs of the year.
Some I agree with, some I don’t agree with . . .
. . . but they lose all credibility for including The Adventures of Tin Tin as a “snub” in the Best Animated Film category.
It WASN’T ELIGIBLE for that category because it was a motion capture film.
You can see the winner of the Animated Short here:
The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
I saw all but one of the Shorts in the theater. One theater showed 4 of the Documentary shorts on a special $5 Monday. I was told they couldn’t get the rights to show the one about actress Dolores Hart giving up Hollywood and becoming a nun. Since Hart acted with Elvis I’m assuming there’s Elvis music in it and that’s why they couldn’t get the rights, but I have no idea. Anyway, while I predicted The Tsunami and Cherry Blossom, I’m happy for Saving Face, a very somber and moving piece that deserved its win.
Another theater showed the Animated and Live Action shorts as 2 blocks, one price ($10) and all of them were shown, along with a few Animated shorts that were submitted but sadly didn’t get nominated. As happy as I am for the winners, Flying Books wasn’t my favorite to win. The winners, the guys from Louisiana, were so flustered and charming I truly am happy for them and I hope they go on to bigger and better things.
When I read that, I immediately thought, “Hey, what about ‘Singin’ in the Rain’?”
BTW, anybody wanna tell me the correct way to punctuate that?
But I looked it up, and was surprised to see it not only didn’t win, it wasn’t even nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.
And the Golden Globes had a separate category for Musicals, so it didn’t even have to compete with the dramas, and it didn’t win a GG for best musical/comedy, either.
In many, many, polls, it’s considered one of the top five films ever.
What was your favorite animated short? Flying Books was my favorite easily. Second favorite would have been the one with the chicken on a morning stroll.
The others, while decent, didn’t even come close.
TonySinclair, I understand what you mean about being surprised that Singin’ In The Rain (that’s how it is on the IMDB page) not only didn’t win but wasn’t even nominated, and it’s a good reason why I don’t think it’s worth getting too worked up about who’s nominated or who wins or loses. Few people remember from year to year what won or was nominated. I’m an Oscar freak and even I don’t remember. Often. To me Brokeback Mountain won. To me The Social Network won. Yeah, not officially, but that’s how I choose to remember the Oscars. What does it matter? Not much. It only matters in the moment and for a few months before and after. Over time, people forget, until they look up the results, like you did. I didn’t realize that Singin’ In The Rain hadn’t even been nominated either.
That’s it, A Morning Stroll was my favorite. That was so strange and wonderful and sick and twisted and funny, I was hoping it would win. It did win the BAFTAS, which was nice. I agree none of the others came close. The Animated presentation in the theater showed some shorts that were not nominated and a couple of those were favorites too.
Ah that must be it. Weird that it doesn’t show up in the post text.
