85th Academy Awards viewing thread

And I just tripped going up the stairs.

Not at all. I was playing around with you. I wanted to pretend like I was at a real Oscar party. I had fun in your thread and I wasn’t trying to snark at you. Sorry if I came off that way, El.

ETA: Mol, I decided to have a couple shots of tequila myself. Feeling a nice warm glow right now.

Most of the lines probably had only two possible endings, so no matter who won, the rhymes would work.

Works for *any *actress winning except Helen Hunt if you take a name out and drop Anne Hathaway in. It could have been: “Anne Hathaway, Sally Field, Jackie Weaver, Helen Hunt”

So you have another couplet written just in case Hunt wins.

(Got news for ya - those “improvised” songs on Whose Line is it Anyway?" and Second City type Improv shows largely work the same way.)

I didn’t know he could, but considering his awesome vocal control and range in his voice acting work, I guess I’m not too surprised.

Channel Nine in Australia just cut off the last ten minutes, so I missed the Loser’s Song.

Huh. I’d always wondered how they did it on Whose Line. Learning all the time.

Oh, right, no worries then. I can’t claim the thread though. I was off my game on commentary this year anyway. I’m frankly jealous of all the folks that machine-gun snappy comments ten seconds after something happens on air.

Let’s not forget thanking the SDMB hamsters. Obviously well-fed and well-watered ahead of time. The Board functioned with no problems. I was amazed by the updates, just seconds after something occurred.

Yeah, I see the source of the confusion now…I thought you had started the thread. Nevertheless, I had fun with all you guys. takes another shot

ETA: Yeah, Duckster. At the Ghetto board I hang out at, damn thing crashed 5 times! But they are funny as hell in the hood, so I worked with it.

To a certain extent, I imagine voters were splitting their votes for Best Picture and Best Director as in:
I’ll vote for A for Best Picture and I’ll vote for B for Best Director.

This phenomenon would have helped Argo for Best Picture since Affleck wasn’t an option for Best Director.

I kind of wish the same kind of phenomenon could have gotten the Screenplay Award for Moonrise Kingdom, which I think should have gotten more recognition.

So there’s this annoying girl on facebook in California speculating about what’ll win best picture. I’m just dying to respond to her status with “Argo fuck yourself.” But I shant.

Is she waiting for tomorrow’s newspaper to find out the news?

I got 20 out of 24 correct which tied to win the Oscar pool at the party I went to!

If only I had gone with my gut feeling and picked Christoph, I’d have won the whole pot!

Who was the woman on stage for Argo?

Ha! In California, it feels that way. I remember having to disconnect myself from the world if I wanted to avoid spoiler alerts once upon a time. I can’t imagine why anyone would be on facebook, of all places, if trying to avoid knowing the Oscar results, so… But yeah, I’ll let her be dumb without “spoiling” it for her.

wait. The Oscars aren’t shown live in CA? Huh. I guess I didn’t watch it for 10 years, or didn’t notice it wasn’t live. I can’t believe I didn’t realize that. I thought it was just like a sporting event. No wait, I know for sure I watched it in a bar one year! I guess I was too drunk to notice it wasn’t live.

Nope! Used to crack me up, especially when they were recorded at the Shrine Auditorium since it was a hop, skip and a jump from my house. I was like, “I can fucking walk to the awards show, but I still have to wait two hours to watch it on TV.” Meanwhile folks in Maine were watching the whole thing live. Craziness!

A bit late to the game, but I had to work tonight so I only saw bits and pieces and didn’t have access to internet.

Highlight of the night has got to be the actress’s reactions to We Saw Your Boobs!

I think the only real snub was Brave beating Wreck It Ralph, but I imagine that many of the eligible voters didn’t get the latter’s tone at all, while Brave was a pretty universally-understood plot.

I really need to see Life of Pi…

What? I’m in LA and the awards were definitely live. Started at 5:30.

I thought it was rather strange that Michelle Obama announced the BP winner. I suppose in a way it was appropriate given that Lincoln was set in the White House and Argo and Zero Dark Thirty were about operations which required a President’s approval.

Wait, what? For real? When did this start? Now granted, I haven’t lived in LA since 2007 (:frowning: x 1,000) so I may be out of the loop, but back in my day, Angelinos had to suffer while the rest of the world got to see what was filmed in our back yard before we did.
