1932, Grand Hotel won B. Picture without being nominated for any other awards.
Once again we see that Hollywood loves movies about Hollywood.
Off the top of my head, probably in 2006, with Crash, which also won three (cue the outrage). That was also a year with a picture/director split.
Well, that was a surprise. I haven’t seen Argo yet but would like to–now, even more so.
Still, given my past crush on Ben Affleck, it’s really nice to see how far he’s come as a director.
Affleck, you’re alright by me.
Yeah, but it’s a good movie, nonetheless.
A song to the losers. What a great idea!
Okay, how did they WRITE this thing so fast?!
ETA: Kristen Chenoweth, yay! And who knew Seth McFarlane had such a good singing voice?
A fair spread of statues IMHO.
Okay, time to fire up Walking Dead…
Oh, Jesus, the chipmunk is back. The person who did Kristin Chenoweth’s makeup should be shot.
Did Zero Dark Thirty get shut out?
And they still can’t get the audio mixing right at the end of the show.
In Kansas City, they just plain cut off the end of the show to play the News.
No, it tied for sound editing.
Thanks to everyone who posted. Highly entertaining, as usual.
Good movie. Not great. IMHO. Among Affleck movies, I liked The Town better.
I think Seth HAS to be a douchebag, because his face is just MADE for it. It was never really up to him. I love his brand of humor though, and I think he did a great job. Sucks for a stick-up-the ass celebrity to be nominated on the year that the academy decides to hire a prick to be host.
ETA: Look at El Kabong feeling like a proper host and thanking us all for coming to his Oscar thread party. I wore my black cocktail dress and everything.
Lincoln seemed like a mortal lock for Best Picture a month or so ago, then for whatever reason the tide started turning. I really liked Argo, but I was still rooting for Abe and company.
Er, did I say something wrong?
I think she meant that as a good thing? Good show. I also dressed nicely and got inappropriately drunk.
