87th Academy Awards viewing thread

They did go all out with the production of that number. Compare that to Rita Ora singing all by herself on a little pedestal (by the way, I still don’t know what movie her song was from … or anything else about that forgettable tune, by the way)

Best joke ever about John and Indina!

John Travolta looks good.

Weird. The orchestra is “performing live from the Capitol Records Building.” I remember when the orchestra performed from the orchestra pit, right there in the theater.

That’s cute. Idina Menzel (“Adele Dazeem”) and John Travolta present Original Song: “Glory” (I was right!)

This was a move by the new directors. I think the idea is to get the crowd closer to the stage.

Common should do everyone’s acceptance speeches.

That was some awkward applause right there.

They’ve actually done that for the past several years. I remember them making a big deal about it the first time.

In other news, while Hollywood falls all over itself in honoring Selma by giving “Glory” an Oscar, what about the seriously overlooked LEGO community? Where’s their token Oscar? Hmmm? Hmmm?

Oh, I thought Lady Gaga was going to sing one of the nominated songs, but no, it’s a completely different song/production number. Yet there’s not enough time for thank you speeches by people who actually work in movies. I guess they’re trying to get the young folks interested.

They made their own. Didn’t you see? Oprah got one.

On a serious note, that Glory performance was incredible

[shame]I’ve never seen The Sound of Music[/shame]

:-o

My grandma had never seen The Wizard of Oz until recently.

But she was still Amish at the time of its release.

I cannot believe that, Equi.

Yeah, he was great. Then that man started yelling.

When I think Sound of Music, I think Lady Gaga.

On the other hand, she sounds fantastic.

This is why the Oscars go so long. Is there really any reason for Gaga to be singing?

Hey I visited your TSTO town a few minutes ago.

I had no idea that Lady Gaga could hit some of those notes. She’s killing it.

It’s almost scary how much she sounds like Julie Andrews…
