I remember an infomercial from the 1990s where the seller was offering something to hold down bowls while you stir them - maybe a kind of suction attachment to the counter. To show why it was important, he stirred without his product and the bowls went flying everywhere. It was pretty ridiculous.
Anyone know where to find that infomercial online? Or at least remember the name of the product?
I always have a soft spot in my heart for the infomercials or even just local ads with truly awful actors where the script has them doing some ordinary task the ordinary way but utterly incompetently while strongly portraying “This is just waaay too hard for a mere mortal like me!!1!”
Then they do the same task by using the product and they goggle and beam like new parents at their sudden skill and ease.
That style of commercials dates back at least to the mid 1950s when it was the basis for the “Better Living Through TV” episode of The Honeymooners, in which Ralph and Ed do a live commercial advertising their Handy Housewife Helper kitchen tool.
