It’s better than what looks like a pooping butt from the same Kannada.

As far as I can tell, it’s the Verdana font on Macintosh OS X that is missing the right symbols.
Now that I think about it, I believe that either the browser or Macintosh OS X will look for a font that contains that character if the current font doesn’t have it. I installed a font I had downloaded once that contained most Unicode characters, and now that I have installed that font, I see the indian language characters in the OP’s thread title that make the title look like two eyes peering through glasses.
The font I installed is named Code2000 ( wikipedia article ) I was going to link to the font website but I had problems with the site, I’m getting a 404 error.
I tried the link on the Wiki page, and it was taking so long I figured it was going to 404. A google search took me to http://www.ffonts.net/. I clicked on the google link that came up with Code2000, and it took me to a page where the download started immediately. The download was a zip file containing:
CODE2000.TTF
ffonts.net.txt
CODE2000.HTM
ffonts.net.htm
install-a-new-font.txt
I hope it’s safe. Assuming it is, what do I do with these files?
The .TTF file is a TrueType font file. If you have a Macintosh, you double-click on the TTF file. This will open up the TrueType font file in FontBook (an application that comes with the OS). FontBook will display sample text in that font and in a dialog box there will be a button saying “Install”. Click on Install and you’re done. Before you Install, you should go to the FontBook preferences to see if it’s going to be installed for the current user or all users, and pick which of those you want.
On the front page the title looks like Amy Sedaris in Strangers with Candy.
I see it.
I know that the browsers do it in Windows. IE didn’t in version 6, but now it does.
It works on my Safari, in OS 10.6.6. Do I really need to go into my system specs? It’s a mac. In fact, it works on every mac I ever go to, because I’m snobby, and my computing experience is seamless. As long as the mac is updated to the most recent software and has an internet connection I can log in as a guest user (or create a new user account if I’ll use the computer repeatedly), download whatever software I need, log into mobile me and let it apply my settings and preferences to the user interface (including doing something in safari to install the font that allows me to see reddit eyes.
Or at least… that’s what I would say… if I was shamlessly promoting how cool my mac is.
Interesting. Did it work for you without installing a font? I also have 10.6.6 on my iMac. I didn’t see the characters without installing that Code2000 font I mentioned.
I will have to check my MacBook to see if the characters show up. I haven’t installed that font on the MacBook.
Forgot to ask: What font do you have that includes that character? Is it one of the fonts that came with the system? When I paste that character (the Kannada character Unicode ttha) in the Character Viewer on my iMac, it tells me that the only font containing the character is Code2000.
Well, take a position over there. I’ll work around towards you. When I flush him, you nail him…
It says: ‘Serious problems were found. Do not use this font.’
Does the file from here work for you?
Same warning.
I didn’t get that warning. I don’t know why you would be getting it. When do you get the warning? When you double-click on the font file? When you click on the Install button in Fontbook? What OS are you using?
10.4.11
It comes up when I click on Install.
Maybe that font file at those sites is different than the one I downloaded a few years ago. I’ll try to compare them later.
I appreciate the help. I’ve found that upgrading my PowerBook has been pretty much trouble-free, so it’s odd that such a simple thing as adding a font would cause problems.
Can doperfags triforce?
